Hey Guys,

I'm planning a new affiliate site which was 100 products coming for it shortly.
I'm just planning the structure and i'm torn between two options, let's assume one page of this site is for 'best car tyres'. Which option would be better:

A) domain.com/automotive/tyres/best-car-tyres
B) domain.com/automotive/best-car-tyres

If I went with A) I would have 25 posts, all under different sub-categories, with about 1 or 2 posts in each. But each subcategory would have a nice focus on a specific keyword.

If I went with B) I would have 25 posts all under the 'automotive' category to create a strong automotive relevance under this category and for all linked pages but will include other keywords like best car jack, tyre pressure pump reviews, etc. All automotive based keywords but may be too broad.

Any thoughts?

i think there is no best way and these small issues keeps our focus away from the main task .in situations like this i try to think what other successful websites are doing and i copy their strategy . so as example you can look at this very successfull website thewirecutter.com and copy their url strategy.

I understand completely, i'm just waiting for the content to arrive so I've got some time :)
Interestingly, that website follows my above idea of option B) -but- if you look at any of their posts, the are ALL /reviews/post-name.

They don't even use the categories for anything more than a menu structure.
Also seeing as i'm probably not going to have 14,000 backlinks like them, I figured I would try to figure out the best on-page seo strategy to score some easy wins

I always go with the first approach. I use page, child pages structure instead of categories and posts.
And use the cc child pages plugin to display all subpages for category pages as blocks with image and small exerpt preview.

I prefer:

domain.com/post-url

One of the reasons is because in the future you may decide to change your categories and it'll involve lots of 301 redirects and potentially broken links.

If it's how I have it above, you don't need to worry about that.
