If you aren't creating a blog, just a business website, how do you create new content for SEO similar to the wordpress sites? Or, in your opinion, is it better to have a business site that utilized WP?

You can write news about the company or the industry in general. Open a blog in the side and publish latest posts from company blog on the homepage etc..

Right, but if you have a business website and the content never/rarely changes, how can you maintain a high SERP even with lots of quality backlinks?

good content and lots of baclinks do seo and make u profit. . .

You can always have a website with a blog - and you don't need wordpress for that, you can use other CMSs. But having a ton of new content all the time is not necesary.
It kind of depends on how difficult your topics are, how much new content you will need to add and how often.
If you'd rather not have a blog, then you could add (as suggested above) industry news, or maybe tutorials or reviews of some kind.

Even if you do have a blog attached to your website, it's not a requirement to update it frequently - I have a couple websites where I only add one new post a month, works fine.

You could add a blog and also rewriting your contents (espesially mail page text) is a good thing.

opening blog is easiest way to continuously update your website with new content. You can update about recent new that are related to your business.

I have this problem too, my offline business' home page is very thin on textual content - that's how it was designed - and even though it is PR4 from having some good high-PR backlinks I am having trouble ranking it for some fairly low-comp keywords in my industry. So I am also considering integrating a blog into the homepage. Didn't REALLY want to do that but it may be necessary...

See, and now I'm lost. How would you integrate a blog into your offline business website? I mean, how would the backlinks increase the offline business' site if the backlinks point to a blog that is separate from the other?

Well, you are not just doing it for backlinking, you are doing it to create some Google-interest by having frequent fresh content. That factor shouldn't be overstated, but it shouldn't be dismissed either, like "backlinking is King" proponents would insist. I rank sites on content alone sometimes - it works just fine.

But I understand your question. The way I am thinking to do this is have the blog on a '/blog' sub-page but pull excerpts from the blog onto my main page - the excerpt can be specially written in my CMS so it is unique from the actual post, you can do that in WP too. Your question is (I think) will that effectively end up ranking my blog higher than my homepage for my keywords? We-e-e-ell, let's try it and see. I think you should backlink to the homepage from the blog a lot, and also I still think the homepage will be seen as the authority page, and the content excerpts will help it.

But if the blog ends up ranking higher than the homepage, well, no biggie, I will just make sure I am capturing leads on my blog - it really doesn't matter at the end of the day :)

New content is definitely not necessary to continue ranking well. There are thousands of examples of sites that don't change their content often but they still rank well.

I just read about someone who moved all of their stuff from a website to wordpress and it shot their ranking up on a really competative keyword from 16 to 7th
