Hello, :)

is there anything to consider when you have a bilingual site?
i would display the english version of the page like this:

url.com/eng

as soon as someone comes with an ip address other than the home country of the main page, he will see the page in english and can change the language again if desired.

so i can build more english links. and would always use this page for that:

url.com/eng

or does it make more sense to link to the (normal) url.com also from english pages?

thanks a lot for your effort!

I feel it's better to host your other language in a subdomain of the original domain so that there's better distinction between them

so you mean eng.url.com for example?

No mate. Keep main domain in english if this is your main language and use .com/fr/ for example.
You can check stripe.com for example, also check source code to see what tags they used.

then you will have a very tough time, ranking your subdomain since it is a different site from google's perspective.

@shuttershades
Many thanks for that.

Other questions to that:
when i have one mainsite domain.com - which is in my laguage and i have the version of the other language like:
domain.com /fr

When I set backlinks to this language.
Should I then set them to the corresponding subpage (domain.com/fr) or simply to the "normal" domain?

Because in the best case you will be automatically redirected to the page with the other language, because the system recognizes which language you speak.

What do you think about this here?

Thanks for your effort!

I think your seo efforts would have to be one sided, other than that, no problem.
