Website HACKED, What To Do Next?

Hey guys,

Client website has been hacked today...

Any ideas on how to get it back (without losing all data) and what to do to stop it from happening.

contact your hosting provider ASAP! they make a backup of all the sites every few hours - so there is a very good chance they can restore your site , but you have to it quick before they make a new backup of the current hacked site!

Usually hosts wont help. It is up to you to backup your sites as well, usually hosts wont do that either. I have had issues recently as well, with one certain host. If you are on a crappy hosting service like JustHost, look at changing. My wordpress sites have not been hacked directly, but I have had repeat malware on my sites, because a shared server/back end has been compromised. There has been a string of it lately. Backup any files you can now, pages and posts. There are sites that have cleaning services like Site Lock. If anything is missing, you are probably SOL and will need to start over unfortunately.

I never actually thought about this, maybe because none of my sites has never been hacked. Maybe I should think in advance and start to backup my sites regulary.

How often you guys backup your sites?

i have the wpdb backup plugin that sends the database file weekly to my mail id.

It depends how it was hacked, maybe you should update your system

Just recovered the site. Phhhheeeeeewwwwww. Now im going to lock that shit up tight as a nuns c#4t

Note to fellow site owners:

Make sure you go with a host that has 24/7 support. (mine responded within 3 minutes)
Updates all of their shit regularly. (check to see if host has had hacking issues in the past)
A host that offers free regular backups.
Backup your own stuff anyways, just to be safe.
Make sure you always have the latest version of WP (if you are using WP)
Have super secure passwords (not the same for everything)

Thats what I am taking out of this anyways...

I hope you weren't with GoDaddy... Last year a site of mine got really badly compromised, it was one of those stupid things that alerts the visitor to install fake antivirus software etc. I still dont kno to this day how it happened although I have my ideas... I made sure that all form input was sanitized and that my PC was absolutely up to date with everything. After it happened a second time I took the site down completely because for the sake of other users and my reputation, but eventually moved to more secure hosting and havnt been infected since.
