Website down 3 months / Penalty or normal ?

Hi, kindly recommend me what to do.

I have an website almost 1 year old after 6 months the website rank for the best keywords and I pass it to a friend,unfortunately he fk about and the site was down for more then 2 months.

Now I recover it,all setup properly back, for a week it`s beeing indexed again.

Will he recover the rankings or almost all of them?
He told me was a penalty but I can`t believe since when was in my hands the site was more and more powerfull.

How to start? I am not a good SEO guy.

Wait for few more days and see how it goes or check webmaster tool for all warning and issues.
 
How much traffic are you getting right now? And how much traffic were you getting when the site was at its peak?
 
I would suggest that you give it some more time , hopefully it picks back up.
 
There is a chance it will recover, yes. But it will take time.

From your description it seems like it was more of a technical issue. Like crappy hosting for example. You can have the best SEO in the world, if bots can't crawl your website you're done.

Yes,rubbish hosting and he build links like a mad.

I speak with @sarkark21 and he will help me,he said it`s maybe a penalty. I trust him he know what to do.

Anyone know if a website down 6 months + would recover if at all? Thats a long time.
 
Be aware many people scrape expired domains contents everyday, make sure your contents are not stolen at that time (of course, maybe in that 2 months, content still indexed, non drop...)
