I am looking into having a site built for me, and everyone here has been so helpful with each endeavor I have tried so I figured I could use some suggestions.

I have an idea that I think has some good potential, but I have no clue where to even start to build it, I know its possible but far out from my designing skills

So I want to have the site built by someone, where do you recommended going? I did place a job on freelancer, and it seems that the bid is around 600, but Im still iffy about giving that kind of job online.

For those who have had sites professionally built where did you go? locally? freelancer? anywhere else? If you have used a great designer, I would greatly appreciate some recommendations. I never thought I would get to the point that I could afford to have a site built,

What are you looking to design? Send me a PM and maybe I can find you a lower price than the $600 freelancers wish for you to spend.

I'm not sure exactly how those freelancer sites work, but isn't there an option for 50/50 pay, or to have the freelancer site hold the $600 as a medium until the work is finished?

As a web designer myself, I can tell you better then anyone perhaps, that in this industry, you get what you pay for.

Most decent designers who know how to market them selves, and have built up a portfolio of high quality work will generally bill at around $70-100 an hour.
