Website content idea: YouTube video transcripts + comments

Hey BHWers,

I thought of this a while back, but never actually made the site a reality since I've been so busy.

The idea is to create a tutorial website, and use YouTube videos as the basis of your content.

You'd hire a virtual assistant for cheap to get transcripts of each video, and your Wordpress theme would highlight the video and would have the transcript under it.
They'd simply type out all of the content as they hear it.

You could also do all sorts of other things to beef up the page for SEO value, such as:

• Putting a huge emphasis on comments for additional content / conversation
• Related tutorials
• Multiple tutorials with multiple transcripts on the same page to increase word count

You can go on EasyOutsource.com and hire a VA from the Philippines for like $2/hour to do the transcripts for you.

With this, you could easily produce massive 2000+ word pieces of content each day complete with videos and comments. It's legitimately useful content and it should rank well, and the best part is, the content is already there, it just isn't put into word form yet that Google can understand.

Possible caveats/additional thoughts:

• Google may have an algorithm in place to detect video transcripts since they have closed captions available on YouTube videos
• More likely to be successful with a custom built website with a large emphasis on commenting and growth-hacks to increase comments (scrolling comment window, etc)
• More likely to be successful by combining multiple tutorials into single posts
• Implement Copyscape into your Virtual Assistant's process so that they aren't publishing duplicate content

Thanks, I think it could be really successful if done properly.

There's a ton of content available on YouTube and comments are SEO gold.
Disqus would work well since they are index-able by Google. You might be able to take it farther by faking well-written user comments, or having your VA do it.

You could run into copyright problems with this, so i would only do this on owned media.
Reference point: Transcription of single voice usually takes 4-6x the time as it is played for consistent talking. Instruction videos will take additional times for formatting.

You do know that youtube already puts transcripts in a lot of those videos already right?

Yes but those are not on normal website where they can capture the search traffic. Different set of search pattern. Also visitors will not all click on a youtube video when they look for instructions because they want 'text'.

As others have said this could be a copyright violation nightmare. Why not just write an original article and use a youtube embedded video to compliment it, i do this all the time. All my articles are unique, i embed a youtube video and that's it - Simple.

This makes sense if you OWN the videos because transcripts are DERIVATIVE works as defined by US copyright law.

Maybe the better approach would be to GET IDEAS and create original content by simply talking about it and having your transcriber transcribe your dialog?

ive thought to do this idea for a specific niche

curious to hear your progress.

Funny, I thought of that couple days ago. Currently working on a script that processes a list of video ids.
with video id and language code you could pull the transcripts directly from a google service.

I guess with some spinning you could produce somewhat unique stuff... But so far the automated transcripts from google are mostly pretty cripled.
