I had about 15 indexed links in webmasters tools and another 20 built, but not indexed.

Today I tried a few methods to get some of the links indexed.. I only tried it on six back links because I wanted to test which method was most effective. I waited several hours and just checked to see if the links were indexed. To my surprise I went from having 15 links... to only 2. What the hell happened?

What type of links were they? Is it possible moderators on sites that you posted to erased them? Were they Web 2.0? They are notorious for getting deleted in mass.

Check your backlinks and see if they are still there on sites you submitted them to. Then check, are your links indexed on Google? If everything is in order, disregard webmasters.

It might be displaying temporary incorrect data and might display correct data again after sometime.

Thank you guys for responding. The 15 links webmaster had index were from blog outreach so none of them were web 2.0s and as far as I can tell they are all still linking to me, so none of them were removed. It's just a little worry-sum that when I got to try an get the spiders to crawl my blog/forum comment backlinks that I go from 15 down to 2.

Hello.

You can use "link:" operator in Google to check your backlinks. Keep in mind not all links are being displayed.

I think this is a temporary bug and your backlinks will come back very soon.

Good luck

Why are all links not shown? Is there anyway to check that the backlinks google is displaying are the ones it's considering when it ranks me?

First thing I would do is make sure those sites were not deindexed from Google. Especially if you purchased them from a forum BST, fiverr, seoclerks, etc..

I think its because of bad backlink, its better you to check the recent backlink you have done

Update: I signed in today and now we are down from 2 to 1. The links are still on the sites they were built on. The backlinks haven't been removed or deindexed. Also, I noticed that traffic from google has not dropped, oddly enough it has increased.

I don't think its bad backlinks.. the ones that were previously built were high quality from .edu, .gov, and authority sites. However, the newely built ones were from relevant blog comments and forum posts. Not sure if that would affect it.

UPDATE: All of my links are finally back in full plus the ones i built and linked to. I think the webmaster tools must have glitched because my site never lost traffic, it actually gained more.

i think those links would have been removed by the moderators of those websites...

You are using WMT for the wrong reasons. It is supposed to be a guide showing you some of your links, if you want to check your backlinks, look for tools such as ahrefs. You clearly know where your links are, so all you need to do is get them indexed, then check if google has them indexed through their search results.

Hello everyone, I been doing a lot of research on building an affiliate website. I just started reading up on backlinks but still not sure how to build my own and how many different types of back links. Can anyone direct me to the thread on building great backlinks??

i think i was using it for the right reasons. i wanted to see what google had found not ahref or open site explorer. not to mention i try to block those sites from finding my back link profile

The same thing happened to one of my sites today!

Until yesterday GWT was showing about 80 links to my site (mostly "nofollow" from forums and blog comments) but today it changed to "no data available".

The forums and blogs still link to my site.

I wonder if it's really a glitch and they will "magically" reappear (like they did for cashmoney404) or is google changing its algorithm again?

Interestingly, my other sites in the same GWT account are still showing a lot of links...
