Webhosting Profitable?

You are going to have a hard time making a webhosting company profitable within 3 months. You need consider that you will be another webhost that offers the same thing as everyone else. One question youd have to ask yourself is, why would someone chose me over someone else. Also, keep in mind you have to come up with a website design, a name, etc. Unless you have a ton of people willing to switch to you, you wont make 600 a month in profit in three months.

Easy math > $5 /month ~Average client

A good server is about 200 bucks higher. You also forget license costs and support costs. In reality, if you want a good server, youre looking at $300 per month, plus 29.99 for the cpanel license, then about 19 bucks a months for an WHMCS billing license, yea I wish you the best, but making a hosting business a 600 amonth profit is going to take you a long time not 3 months LOL

Anything is possible but it's not going to be easy.

Starting out I would not go the dedicated server route. I would just get a good reseller plan with a great host. Add in whmcs and your good to go. Build your client base up on that. With most reseller plans you get support. So on the high side you are looking at 50 bucks a month. Just make sure you set the plan up with custom name servers will make it easy to move clients to dedicated server later.

Then if you target local clients you can get up to 20 bucks a month for hosting and site updates. Only takes a few to get a good core foundation of clients.

Once you max out your reseller plan then move to a dedicated server.

This business is not easy but if you are willing to work hard then yes you can make money with it.

Targeting local isn't something I even really thought of, but that should work well.

Also, I could use box-billing to cut down on monthly costs? How do you feel about that?

I did not included everything ,just so the OP can have an idea how much work you need to put on it. Don't forget Custom Web design (No one will signup with a premade template, you will only target spammers and fraudsters,You need to work on tutorials, have a good presence online etc. I had a hosting company around 2009 and even then it was so hard to get in the game ,imagine now. The only space to make some money is LOCAL CLIENTS and word of mouth.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the comments. After much research, ultimately decided against it.

Hello BHW!

I am looking at into starting my own website design studio, but I decided maybe it might be worth it to look into having my own hosting company. I know the technical side, and the business side.. but with how many big names there are it seems like it may not be worth it.

What do you think?

Become a VPS/Shared Hosting reseller. Is cheaper and more friendly for begginers.
