so 3 months ago I purchased a dedicated server from a company for $600, the server was horrible so I did not pay after the first month, assuming that they would just shut down the server and suspend it..

now they forwarded the info to a debt collector asking me for $1200 asking for the payment for the last 2 months. this is ridiculous.. any advice on what to do?

Read their terms and conditions & user agreement (if such) carefully.
You don't have to pay anything as long as you didn't sign under it digitally.

Ask them for the refund of the paid $600 coz of poor service instead!

    This is from their TOS:

I believe they have it covered, you should cancel at least before they send you another $1200 bill.

If you want to go to court over that you will need to find holes in the TOS. Such as may be the service itself, which according to your words was unsatisfactory.
