Just though i would start a list of hosts to avoid, Maybe this will be useful to some people on what hosts to stay clear of!

Let me start:

Advertise on BHW
Chilled Host. Left an Account Suspended message on two of my domains for over two weeks claiming it was a system bug and they were looking into it. Luckily the sites were new and not pulling in too much cash.
 
globat is another one to avoid like the plague. There customer service really sucks and the servers are always down. They made me lose a lot of money a few years ago so I switched to another one.
 
1and1 - useless control panel, no full mysql control; justhost - they suspended my account without notice and my databases disappeared, with no real reason
 
dreamhost - stay the hell away from them ping its really poor , server are WAY oversell
one time they move my websites to another server and they lost all my mysql databases thay say to me "u got to backup all" and they got a shitty slow control panel

dreamhost = stay away
 
just found this thread - has anyone used http: // artcrest.net /hosting.htm before? To good to be true?

Agreed with 1&1 the control panel is a nightmare to use and they are so sloooooooooooooowwwww
 
1&1. Not bad as far as domain forwarding. However, it's TERRIBLE in the Cpanel department - Cron job, Mysql sucks... If you need to set up a cron job, don't get it with 1&1. I wasted a ton of time trying to set up on what is SOOO easy with other web host Cpanels.

1&1 control panel sucks - its not even cpanel & databases cost extra, what's that about?
 
Add SeoHost.com to the list. Jesus I'm on a hot streak with these ***** hosting companies.

Running 10 websites with them with only a single script (total) set to run every 2 minutes. The script itself barely uses any resources on all of my other hosting companies along with verifying it at home. Within the last two weeks I've twice (first time five days, second time three days that I know of) with the "This Account Has Been Suspended" message. No warning email, locked out of Cpanel, Email accounts all frozen. High Alert email sent and it's already been 24 hours without a response. Safe to say I've already moved it to another hosting which I've had for three years without a problem. First time around he gave me some absolutely bogus usage stats. When challenged with my own stats from my end any further emails were ignored.

Stay the heck away from these guys.
 
I would recommend hostmonster for shared hosting, their servers are fast and have excellent customer service with 24/7 live chat which is awesome.
 
What did you expect from an Indian hosting company with fake postal address and no contact details.

I bet this is run by someone from BHW. That's the only way someone here would have found them.

On the other hand - A script that runs every 2 minutes, 24/7? Sooner or later your account will be closed in any shared hosting account regardless of the company.
To run a script every 2 minutes you need a VPS (at minimum) with absolutely no relation to resources usage + 1 single script that handles 10 websites simultaneously cannot be low on resources by definition; so I think you need to look closer at the industry standards before you make such claim.

I will second Startlogic / Ipower (same). Bad cPanel, bad costumer support (barely know English, 40 minutes on chat standby, know nothing about webhosting), bad everything.
I will strongly recommend webhostingpad - That's for sure. Just excellent.

Not the right place to advise a good hosting company. Rather, you may write about your bad experiences.:)
