Has anyone here had experience with this registrar (101domain)?
How strict are they? I’m planning to transfer a domain will they force me to go through KYC?
And in general, what difficulties or issues might I run into?

never heard of them, but yeah, KYC pisses the hell out of me too, and it's actually 1 of the main reasons for which I'm not doing business online anymore (everyone wants to know who I am, how I look like, where I live, what I had for breakfast, my biometrics, the consistency of my poop, and so on). Just... f**k that!

Whenever I shop around for online services I contact them with a few questions that are crucial for me, and - depending on how they respond (if at all) - I will choose them or not.

For example, a few weeks ago I searched for file sharing storage, and I've manually sent each one of the 6-7 companies that were on my list VERY SPECIFIC (as in, specific to their own features and perks) questions using the "contact us" form on their website. I specifically chose the contact us form even though they also had email support, FAQ, online chat, etc...

But most of these methods are already infested with AI, so I thought that by contacting them directly via their Contact Us form I would get to see which company actually cares about me enough to read that contact us message and then manually, and personally reply to my questions.

And, even though only 2 of these companies replied to me, I choose 1 of them only because they're handling all of the support manually (at least that's what they said, they could still lie to me, of course, but the person who replied to me did seem human) and they've replied faster than the other company who only replied some weeks later. They did apologize for the delayed reply, I don't remember what their reason for the late reply was, but since I had already purchased storage from the other company by the time the 2nd one replied I had to stick to the 1st company. But now there are 2 companies that seem to care about their customers enough to reply manually and in person, which shows me that the AI alienation that's taken our minds over the last few years is slowly receding and companies are going back to normality again. Yay!

So anyway, with regards to hosting companies I do the same things: contact them via their contact us form, with very specific questions, and - depending on what they reply with (or whether they're replying at all) - I will either give them a try or not.

Unfortunately, even if people that use 101domain will leave their feedback, I don't think it will help too much as some companies screw people based on stuff that only they know. So, a potential 101domain user could come here and leave feedback that will never apply to you if 101domain (or whichever other company is in discussion) decides that you're scammable :D

And in general, what difficulties or issues might I run into?
with regards to domain transfers the biggest issues that I've found over the years are the transfer and renewal fees. Some companies will try to charge your domains right before transferring them out of them, or - in case that you wish to transfer the domains in - they will renew them by 1 more years right after the transfer. So, you gotta be prepared for that.

One company that tried to screw me is Mochahost, I told them that I would like to transfer my domains out of them some years ago and - I don't remember why I had to contact them about this (probably so they can unlock my domains or something, I really don't remember) - right before unlocking the domains (I think I had 5 of them at the time) they've tried renewing them by charging my credit card again. Actually, now that I think about it, they also tried charging me for the hosting too (I was in the last month with them), but my luck was that I had no funds on my credit card, so they couldn't charge me anything, but otherwise they would have.... Namecheap also tried something similar on me 1 year later too LOL... fucking scumbags!

Anyway, be wary of transfer fees. And seriously, when you sign up with an online service that you're not sure you're going to renew when it expires, or which costs a lot, use a disposable / virtual / low balance credit card to pay for that service / subscription and have no money left on it for anything else. If you need extra perks / services / products you can use another credit card that you never use for subscriptions, but for hosting / domain registrars / subscriptions in general, etc only have enough money to pay for that particular subscription and then leave the card empty. Or find other ways to protect yourself against automatic charges...
