Web Host offers domain hijacking protection- is it worth ?

Hi guys today !

I see many web hositng providers offers you additional premium services like this;
Domain Hijacking Protection (this is not the same as whois protection privay)
some call this: Domain Guard

is it worth to buy?
For me a big no-no. I think so long as you renew your domain, nobody can steal that from your web host/ registrar- right?
Hijacking should be very rarely, web hosters have good hackker attack protection to their environment.

What do you guys think ?

What this domain hijacking protection means actually is a domain status called "Client transfer prohibited".

When a domain has this status in it, it cannot be transferred away. Let alone hackers, even you can't transfer your domain unless you disable it.

I never knew companies actually charge for it, because, in my experience, it was always provided for free.

Reliable registars have Site Lock etc, Namesilo were one of the first ones to offer this, if I recall.

It is actually there since the internet was founded. It is just that the sales team of domain registrars is getting creative with it recently and using it as an opportunity to gain extra bucks.
 
Just a marketing trick, nothing more. It is offered in many domain registars. Except those with marketing abusive strategies like that you found.

Exactly, and it's free with Namesilo. All decent registrars have locks that must be removed for doing any transfers.
 
Domain name transfer lock is there by default in the dashboard of your account page. You just need to enable it.

The best way to protect your domain name from getting hijacked is to protect your account with domain name registrar website. Make sure you have 2-Step verification enabled there.

I have it already with my registrar site.
