Just talking about Web 2.0s when people are talking about diversifying their anchors to look more natural in the eyes of google. Does that also mean for the tags that you can add for web 2.0s also? i.e your website is w.w.buynicechairsdatcom anchor: buy nice chairs tag: buy nice chairs. should you diversify the tags as well?

I diversify everything. Anchor texts, tags, URLs, usernames, article structure, article length, everything.

As ja1myn explained we need to keep every thing looks natural in the eyes of google.

Number of OBL should vary too. Don't use 1 obl for each property just because you think it's best

Diversify your anchor text, tags, number of links, and the actual page you link to. For example, if I am doing SEO for a local pizza place my anchor texts might be: best pizza, click here for pizza, pizza, etc. Same with the tags. I also add links to major chains (e.g., Papa Johns or Dominoes). This looks much more natural - you are writing about pizza, but only mention the small local shop - I don't think so. Finally, don't just link to the homepage. Throw some links as the subpages.

we should also link to other pages other than the homepage and even try to slot in a few misspelt anchor text links and even some url based links. we took a knock with penguin recently but since we changed some of our anchor text our rankings are slowly improving.

Using the exact same anchor tag looks very unnatural. When I run link campaigns I of course run my top few keywords but I also throw in the following:

"click here"
"website"
"http://yoururl.com"

Just to look more natural. If you use your most targetted keyword over and over Google will know.

Anchor variation is very important, which I am leaning toward 70/30, ie 80% of my anchors are for non-keyword terms. Also, use synonyms for your target keywords. Google is using software to recognize text that is synonymous with a user's query to offer even more relevant documents.
