For link building I use expired Tumblr blogs. These blogs have often links (from the old blog) indexed in Google. But obviously they are gone now and when someone clicks on these links they will see a 404 not found message on Tumblr.
Should I do something with these links, or should I just leave it as it is?

You have to check that how this page looks before and then write a similar article or even better and submit there. This will help you in getting high quality backlink.

Id be checking metrics of the pages you may want to rebuild. If you don't care about the traffic then it doesn't matter if they're indexed. They'll eventually get deindexed.

No I don't care about that traffic. However I care about the metrics. When these links deindex, could this hurt the metrics?

As my point of view, u can Ignore like that logo for ur safety purpose

I would at least re-create the pages with the highest link count pointing to them.

Then the simplest thing to do is put a link pointing to homepage somewhere in the consent. Every re-created page will link to homepage like this giving it more power.

Content can be brand new. Just make sure the URLs match perfectly.
