web 2.0 + domain = PBN or not?

Hi,
I wonder why PBN have to host in selfhost instead of using 'free host' on wordpress.com. Can anyone tell me what is the different between selfhost + domain and web 2.0 + domain ?

I see some guys sell $10-15 per post on some sites like travelpod.com, Behance.net, Storify.com, etc. After checking it's like web 2.0 nothing special.

Please help.

One of the many differences: the first one is usually a domain with an already existing backlink profile, including some authority links, whereas the second one not.
 
On wordpress.com you get a new subdomain, while people want to host aged domain with high authority metrics for PBNs.

Wordpress.com allows you to host your own domains as well , just like blogger , tumblr etc

Why second one it not ? If I buy a good domain with good metric and point to my web 2.0, what is the different with use that domain with self-host?
 
You also need a lot of IP's for your PBN, ideally 1 IP per domain. As far as I know web 2.0's are not able to provide such amount of IP's
 
The big problem with the second option is that you can lose it at any time, because it's still the property of WordPress and regardless of what you want to do WordPress moderators have the final say on what is within their TOS and what is redundant etc.

But if you are hosting your PBN on a dedicated server where each domain has a different IP regardless of the C block, the Reverse DNS (PTR record) is still the same for all and G could see through that. Am I correct?

Why would you wanna do that? We all know web 2.0s are on Google's radar.
 
Yes you can use web2.0 to host your own domains, there is no difference between that and a normal hosting. You just have to make sure that your PBN doesn't look like spammy shiit that can be pulled, but other then that you will be fine
 
OP brought an interesting question.
I don't know anyone testing it. I've seen opinions but no real experience with it.
Probably it's worth mixing some domains on free hosts like blogger, weebly or tumblr. Especially as some genuine sites are hosted there, so it may work.

This. Pretty much, but do you really want to not have full access to your PBN. What if tumblr suddenly decides to ban you? It'd be a big loss, I'd say it's best to have control over hosting. But yes, in theory, this could work, at least for a part of your PBN. Hosting all your websites on free web 2.0's with custom domain would be a massive footprint.

You are right.
The advantage would be lower costs and a bit of diversity. But at the same time you can get banned (low chances if you are smart). The biggest disadvantage is that you don't have access to the back end (ex. to make redirects or other stuff).

You must be doing some stupid things if you wanna be banned by Thumblr with your own domain, or all the other web2.0 that offer that
 
When you use your own domain often you need to pay, it is just like normal hosting,, but he... if you rather put your sites on a couple of $1- or SEO hosting accounts, go right ahead. I have multiple domains hosted by (some paid) web2.0 firms and i am quite happy with it, i have more trust in them then in $1-/SEO hosting
