Wealth Inequality in America

Wealth inequality is not the problem in the US, the ability to improve social status is. Social mobility is dead in the US, someone born poor will stay poor, someone born rich will stay rich. The 'American Dream' is still alive, however you have to be born in Denmark, Sweden, Finland or Norway to have the best chance of achieving it.

How can anyone take a video seriously where the producer ends it with a "Get back to work you dirty communist"? Everyone that doesn't agree is by default a communist? And a dirty one at that.

It 's called humor and you seem to lack it, that 's why you got confused.

The producer actually really believes everyone that's out of work (the ones taking from the system as he so nicely points out in the video) are so by choice?

Nothing in the video implies that he does. You 're just saying it because that 's your usual line of argument and you are unable to deviate from that. And they are not taking for the system, there 's no such thing as "the system", they 're talking for the producers. Unless you think wealth gets produced by Santa 's elves.

Do you live in the US? I find the above an odd way of thinking, and the total opposite of what I see every day.

Maybe I do lack a sense of humour, maybe I don't. I think if the rest of the video would have been in a humorous tone I would have found it funny, but it wasn't and neither was the original video. Would you agree with me on this?

You're correct here, he's saying "from the Government" and not the system. The government to which people pay taxes. And I wasn't saying anything, I was asking, hence the question mark at the end of the sentence.

It 's not a George Carlin video to be funny all the time. If you start watching presentations, you 'll notice that almost in any subject people tend to use one-liners as jokes to spice up their talks.

Yes, it has the question mark, but he didn't say or imply anything about the causes of unemployment in the video, did he? ;)

Remember not to get political :)

Its capitalism, people make money and some make a lot more than others. If you don't like where you're sitting go get a bigger piece of the pie.

Great way to sum it all up!

Cheers to making money and not fussing because others have more than you but going out and making your own way!

It's called dry humor. I am a big fan of dry humor. One thing I've learned from posting with people all over the world is that some don't understand when dry humor is being used, and people who misunderstand take it literally.

When poor people get their heads out of their asses and decide they want to make money instead of getting free stuff than I'll actually care what's in the video.

Most people have no desire to get ahead in life and don't take the steps to better themselves. They're more interested in what's on the next episode of honey booboo or the upcoming football game than to actually learn about making money, getting ahead, or even the bare minimum of what their politicians stand for.

The issue isn't - Rich VS Poor

But - Smart VS Purposefully Ignorant

Lol, the tax video is a joke. The 1% pay so much of the tax ONLY BECAUSE they have soooo much the country's wealth.
EVEN with paying that much of the nation's tax, they Laugh all the way to the bank. It's Nothing.
Their wealth still grows exponentially. The game is rigged and the rich rig the game to their advantage.

Follow the math..there will be dirt poor and uber rich. That's where we are headed.

The game has been rigged since we first invented money...nothing new.

The smart people learn how to use the system to their advantage instead of being crybabies about how much more someone else has than them.

It 's not the country 's wealth, it 's their own. Perhaps you think you are somehow entitled to other people 's wealth by birthright?

Yes, producers laugh all the way to the bank. What 's new? Perhaps you should consider they laugh because they 're not parasites? Btw, income tax is tax on income, not property. People don't get tax on their (already taxed) wealth (well, usually :D). They get taxed on the production.

Follow the math..there will be dirt poor and uber rich. That's where we are headed.

That 's not bad at all, as long as there 's nothing to stop a poor man from becoming a rich man and a rich man from becoming a poor man. That 's what freedom 's about.

Self accountability is the issue mainly. People do not want to point to themselves. Did it ever occur to you some work harder than
others? Everyone should pay their fair share! (Including those making $30,000 per year or less) :o

Same people screaming equality and socialism are bankrupting companies for ridiculous wages. Okay put your heart into your
ideology. Work for the cause of humanity and country. Work for nothing so other can enjoy your fruits.

Hopefully the other guy will feel the same? lol

Cheers,

@RedRubies

I live in the UK, which is higher than the US on social mobility but still lower than the countries I have already mentioned. What you see everyday is not empirical evidence, it is a snap shot of what you are choosing to notice and what you are being feed, these social mobility studies are based on facts.

I am not saying that an individual cannot 'make it' what I am saying is that there is less transfer between the groups of classes. Ultimately what differentiates the Nordic countries I mentioned and both of our countries is the standard of education received by everyone, not just those that can afford it.

I could go on about globalization and the true effect it is having on the wages, job security and blue collar jobs of the middle classes but I will spare you the essay fella!

Warm regards,

Anthony.

This isn't always the case. There are many people that have no job because they can't find one, how are they supposed to get their heads out of their asses and find work when there isn't any available? Or when most of it is taken by those with more experience?

So in essence what some of you are saying is that we might as well forget about donating to charities, those in need can fix their own problems by getting their heads out of their asses.

So Middle class Americans are parasites? Wow, I'll let them know that's what you think. :tsk:

Show me 1, just ONE poor man who has bought the policies he wanted from the government.
The poor do NOT have access to the wealth building opportunities that the rich have.
There was a PBS show I watching where they were interviewing billionaires in New York, doing a show on wealth basically.
The Billionaire said 'I do not buy things anymore, I buy the Policies I want'. Meaning he buys the gov't.

Some people just aren't aware of the 'real world'. Getting out of the Black hole of poverty is ridiculously hard BECAUSE the gov't made it that way. If you've ever been poor, then you Know this is a fact.

Anyone who demands property over wealth he has not produced with his own means. That doesn't mean the middle class. I know a huge lot of decent middle class people who do not have any parasitic mindset. Don't put all people in a box.

Read again the above if you still can't grasp the concept.

I 'm not sure I understand the question. Poor people benefit from government funds that are supplied by richer people 's taxes. What more policies do you need?

The poor do NOT have access to the wealth building opportunities that the rich have.

Of course. It 's like complaining that you as a basketball player don't have the same opportunities to win the championship like Kobe. Why on earth would you? First you walk, then you run.

Yes, true. That 's what we call crony capitalism; the use of monopolistic force (government) from some companies to stop competition from the majority of the other ones. I won't go more into that because we' ll get the thread locked and ourselves banned. ;)

Some people just aren't aware of the 'real world'. Getting out of the Black hole of poverty is ridiculously hard BECAUSE the gov't made it that way. If you've ever been poor, then you Know this is a fact.

Yes and no. Yes, the gov'ment restricts competition and that makes people 's ascend to riches harder. No, it 's not too hard to get from poor to well off and more. Wtf do you think people are here for?

The US is a fascist corpocracy.
It won't change as long as some form of lobbying exists.

Work smarter, not harder. I do not know about all of you, but I am going to aim to be one of the "1%". Stop bitching and get to work.
