We've all been there.

You buy something new and shiny. You feel fucking great the first few times u use it. But as time goes, the more you use that item, you don't feel that joy.

This is called Habituation.

When a stimulus is presented to us repeatedly, the way the neurons in the brain respond to it changes over time to retain the original, more balanced emotional state that was independent of the stimulus that caused an aroused emotional state.

Crazy thing is, these emotional states can be negative as well.
You lose a loved one, lose a pet, your wife fucks another guy (although guys like @VSYNC might be into it) - and you feel fucking horrible. Guess what, that will go away too.

Nothing is permanent. So if you feel happy at some time, take it all in. It isn't going to last.
If you feel shitty, hang in there - it isn't going to last either.

If you are someone who thinks "when I have a girlfriend, money, promotion - I'm gonna be happy", I've got bad news for you, you will be happy. But for a brief period of time. Then you want something else. We are all flawed. Maybe it is not a flaw. Maybe it is fucking genius. Maybe that's why humans have evolved into what we are now.

Nothing lasts, not even the human race.

Our mere existence and ability to have a conversation is nothing short of defying unquantifiable odds, we are imperfect creations experiencing a fraction of a second in a lifetime on the cosmic timeline.

My wife and her boyfriend are both doing good mate. He said he might share her with me one day, pretty pumped about it ngl..

Yeah mentality is either the biggest strength or weakness a person can have. Luckily it's mutable.

Once you fail enough times you realise gradually the things you were doing right and (some of) the things you were doing wrong.

But personally I think happiness is an overrated goal. One that ironically creates the most unhappiness.

I really like the way you talk about such things.

thanks mate, naturally I'm actually quite retarded.. it's only because I've made more mistakes than other other human I've met that eventually it sinks in.

(mistakes + assessment - dwelling on them) x 1,000 = more success - emotional baggage

Good post from my favorite influence :)

Everything can only hurt for a while, it's up to you to decide how long you let bullshit effect you.

We are the way the universe experiences itself.

@javabro having a zen moment :D
but 100% true stuff told

Don't say that man buying a new lappy soon :weep:

Lappy makes me no happy :(

Happiness isn’t achieved by external achievements.

No money , no house, no car can do it.

It’s a mindset as @javabro said.

But I do believe there are basic things such as clean water and food that are needed for happiness to be achieved.

Bullshit.

I lay on my 200x180x30 bed/mattress and I enjoy every second of it. And you know what I'll do when I don't enjoy it? I'll remind myself on when I used to sleep in shit... well okay not really... when I used to sleep on a couch that opens and for a few years on a fucked up one that had the thing inside that was popping out a little bit and making me uncomfortable I always had to move to the side a little bit.

I'm an adult. As an adult I'll flash back to the bad times and so today will always be good, just as long as it's good.

Did you ever buy like a little sausage pie in the evening, and you ate half of it and left the other half to eat something in the morning to get you started. There was no other food, and money was tight. Well fuck me, nowadays I buy food whatever I want as much as I want and it makes me fucking happy, and if it ever doesn't make me happy and pumped I'll just remember the before and I'll be golden.

Did you ever go on a little vacation only to return to find your (rented) apartment door wide open, all your crap piled up in the living room, the bathroom renovated, the kitchen being renovated. Then your landlord tells you they were hoping to get it done before you returned, they wanna up your rent, and you have to pay the cleaning lady? And all you wanted was to get some fucking rest after the long bus ride home. And then that's unacceptabe, so you argue with the landlord and she kicks you out, and you have 1 week to find a new place to rent.

And then you find a new place to rent, but you don't have a car. Also the bus ride I mentioned above, because no car. So then how do you move your crap to the other side of the city in the new apartment? You call a taxi... 5 fucking times back and forth.

So...

Maybe you guys have short memories but I don't. I hold gurdges for a million years, and I remember the bad times and every slight for a million years. And that may be a negative trait, but we just found a positive to it - whenever I feel like my bed/car/money doesn't make me happy, just remember how it used to be, and be fucking happy.

I completely agree!

Reason? - Everything is available to us!

The older generations are somehow still doing well, but the newer generations want everything right now!

All things today last very short, does that thing cost $1 or $1.000 that feeling that used to last when I was growing up, that adrenaline, disappeared!
