Ways to monetize an EXPAT site

Hi everybody,

I have a questions, im willing to help a friend promote this site.
Lets say its an site giving tips to brasilian people coming to america. (visa, paper work etc.) as well as event plans, where to eat, what to do etc.

What would be the ways to monetize the site, there is no eshop.
There will be quality and original content added frequently.
Should the main concern be to get as many people as possible to the site and adsense it? Get email lists in every possible way and the usual stuff?
Try to cooperate with the local businesses and add their events on the site?
Is there any sense in SEM with this kind of site?

Thanks for any tips im just trying to clarify the whole idea and see if there is any point going into it.

I follow an expat blog in Australia and the owner primarily monetizes it by advertising local businesses and services. But an email list is a must, so that he can use it to sell or to get people coming back to the site.

Interesting topic will follow it... I assume advertising local businesses if they are willing to do, is the best way to monetize the website.

okay the things is that you need to show some data before you can approach businesses. Lets say you approach a local new restaurant with they friday offer, why would they pay you to promote their restaurant with their offer if you dont have enough active users, visitors and traffic.

so the real question is, how would you guys go about generating proper traffic?

There are plenty of things needed to generate traffic. Below are the few important things to consider,

- make your site more search engine friendly and giving them what people are looking for
- write content that search engine understand
- build quality back links
- maintain the site frequency
- social media promotion

Make sure, you follow the right strategy.
