Why is there no major revolt against this? It is already causing many water shortage problems and can result in crisis situation in many places. Why is everyone closing eyes till it becomes life death situation?

Because the report on excessive water usage by AI data centers is mainly exaggerated.

Have a look at this article on the issue.

For example, the author points out that manufacturing a t-shirt uses the same amount of water as 1,300,000 prompts.

as coldboot says, there is no major revolt around this because it was one of the biggest pieces of actual fake news / uproar based on non-factual evidence. check how much one normal golf court spends in terms of water consumption in the us and you will quickly realize that though there are many issues with ai currently, this is not one of them

there are bigger threats than this.

in a perfect fine world, we can talk about this. but not while people are getting vaporized on a daily basis because of a handful maniacs. lets get the priorities right please

there isn’t a big revolt because most people can’t see the problem, the numbers are murky, the harms are local, and the benefits feel immediate

It's a classic case of out of sight, out of mind. The immediate benefits and hype around AI are too strong. People generally don't act on issues until it's a direct, tangible problem impacting their daily life or finances. Long-term resource concerns often get ignored for immediate advantages.

wild stat—ai models now use big servers and water cooling, so water consumption is rising fast. if you run large ai farms or cloud instances check your data centre cooling methods and power sources. efficiency matters not just cost.

Financial crisis? I doubt there is actually anything like that. Human beings are capable to survive in any of financial crisis like in past. It is a very hyped thing.
