It's time for me to start one of those for 2 reasons:
- To keep me disciplined (No motivation involved, I'm doing this (even if I have a shit load of work to do, but if I don't start, someone else will)
- To brag about it once I succeed.
Quick notes to keep in mind:
1- It's not my first time doing this, I got some already established businesses in my country.
2- I have a team of 5 people who will work on this day night to make it happen (more of the tasks below)
3- We've already started (more details below).
What is it about:
I live in a city that is concidered top 10 places for travel & tourists. Main businesses here are restaurants, activities, hotel, accomodation related.
These businesses pay a good commission on each booking confirmed. (Bring clients, get payed).
For one single person going to a restaurant, you get about $5 in commission. For every night booked, you get at least $10.
The funny thing, is all my competitors are noobies, really. It's surprising and shocking how easy it is to outrank them for every major keyword (be it low, medium or high competition ones).
The best of those competitors is ranked only because of it being the oldest. (Yeah, SEO is my country is basically inexistant. I manage to outrank bigger competitors in real estate with only free links from here.)
The issues were:
Noticed the "were" ? Yeah, because we already dealt with those, (I told you I started a while ago):
1- Getting the business owners to sign a damn contract:
And here is the part where I mentioned that we've already started. Up to this day, we have about 40 to 50 restaurants that are ready to pay a comission on every confirmed booking. And 15 hotels that will do the same.
I went there and said, hey, listen! I'll offer you the greatest opportunity ever, get your business on my plateform and I'll give you 14 days of free bookings, if you like it sign the contract, If not, keep your bookings and good luck. That was for around 70 hotels, The ones who said yes are above. Restaurants converted were about 50%, restaurants are very receptive to similar offers, they're ready to pay if you bring them clients, although they shave a lot...)
I used some google ads accounts from here, got them some booking (we controled how much traffic goes to each business page so they get small amounts at the start, since I anticipated the gads accounts will be suspended and I won't have budget to continue the trial, so it was like 2-3 bookings per day for about 2 weeks) and they accepted. Unfortunately the threeshold accounts party was over and so was my outreach strategy. Now we'll use the big guns.
2- Businesses owners are dishonest (pretty normal tbh, part of the game)
These guys will shave EVERYTIME about 30% of the real booking number. You get them 100 they'll swear they only got 70.
The solution?
Not a 100% one but it will help us retain some of that 30%. We've built a platform with a notification system that sends multiple notifications to the user if they booked. 2 days before booking, 1 day before as a reminder, 1 hour before. And finally 24h after the booking to get their feedback.
We also asks the user about their whatsapp number (opted after the accept us sending them feedback messages). And the post booking notification can be sent there.
3- Being unique:
As you probably understand by now, there are hundreds and hundreds of similar platforms, that promote the same restaurants, same businesses, same menus, same EVERYTHING. So we need to stand from the masses.
99% of these websites use wordpress. Very limited. We're not. We've built a strong platform from scratch after selecting exactly what the users want to see. Our booking system is very flexible and we're able to offer different options than your regular wordpress form.
We've also created a quick chatbot, finetuned it to be the best travelers assistant and it can confirm bookings too. The amount of visitors we have now love it.
If things go well, we'll make it into a native mobile app and the real profit can start then, but that's something for the future once we reach our first goal.
4- It's a seasonal market:
6 months, half a year. That's the period where I'll be making money. The rest of the calendar,demand is slow, which is correct concidering tourism seasons. The competitors make it heavy on ads in this period. I won't.
So how we're gonna do it?
Easy, SEO.
I'm gonna show them where a good and solid SEO can get you. Majority of them use ads on google and social media. I'll leave that for them, they can take it all. But I'm gonna monopolize the shit out of search engine results like they never seen in their entire life. It's gonna be so huge that they won't even have time to react. I tell you, it's gonna be a scandal.
If you check these competitors backlink profile, (which I won't give you) you'll have a heart attack with all the crap there. Yet, the 3 top ones generate XXXXX of clicks monthly. I manage to know someone who works for the first "platform" and we're talking about more than 100 000 USD yearly in commissions. Hell I won't let them get it all. I want some of that.
Now as I said, I already started, (around 2 months ago) and managed to be in the first 10 results for a couple of major keywords. The site even starts getting some bookings but nothing serious (about 40 last month)
PS: you see that 27000 searches keyword? That's my goal. It's not reflecting yet but I'm already at position 22 (+75 jump), but the keyword still dances so I'm not confident yet)
PPS: These are just the initial ones, they represent less than 5% of the total niche search volume, and that's just for restauration.
The hilarious stuff? It was done using only the review copies from here LOL. I didn't spend a dime on marketing since this started, but it's time to change that.
I'll be throwing exactly 500-1000 usd worth of links monthly starting 01/07, and EXCLUSIVELY from BHW. This is the hidden goal. Ranking the shit out of this platform using only links from here (Imagine the lols)
It will be a slaughter. A complete domination. I even started thinking to build a PBN just for this website, but I don't have time, so I'll be buying links.
We've just started writing articles, we currently have 5 (One of them is top 3 in it's targeted keyword). The idea is to start adding atleast 5 daily posts. My strategy is to embed booking buttons and links in articles, these will be in form or reviews about certain businesses or restaurants.
That's it. No ads, no BS. Just the old SEO way.
My next update will be on 01/07 when I start buying links. If you have some insights or good providers here let me know (if it's allowed ofc).
