I installed the plugin Wassup and compared ones day total of it to one days total from Google.

Wassup .............................. Google Analytics
485 visits ............................ 60 pageview - 35 unique
895 page views ...................181 pageviews

Wassup says I have 8 times more visitors (approx.)

How are these numbers possible.

You will need to check your server's access logs and count visitors. Only then will you know if any of the two are working properly. Google Analyticts is known to be slow in showing less visitors, simply because it does not always load. But a difference of factor 8 is highly unusual.

I didn't know this but access logs can be found in cPanel. According to my awstats I have more visitors than Google reports but less than wassup. I am in the middle
Thanks for the great answer. added rep

I've seen Google reports generated based on as little as 2% of visits, one to watch out for, Google's making a slow and gradual move toward it's paid version by providing less and less accuracy via their free analytics. It sound to me like visits from spiders/crawlers are included in Wassup page-views however I've not used it before so couldn't be certain, check for patterns in the server logs.
