Every time I see a post asking for content writers it gets filled pretty quick with guys offering their native English excellent article writing services.

Now I got to thinking, if they are charging $2 to $5 for their 500 word articles would they not be better served to create their own sites and post their awesome articles? I know there are days when one of my neglected sites does almost $5 from adsense, and that site gets no promotion and has not been updated for half a year.

I know the answer, as I have seen many of their articles - they are spun content.

Same thing goes for all the guru's who promise that you can so much a day from their system. They aren't even making bank from their system just profiting off people they sell to.

Or a site built for you for $30 that will earn you $5000 a month, if I was sure of those numbers I would hire a team from overseas and create thousands of sites a month and then own the world!

The old saying those who can do and those who can't teach pretty much sums it up.

I agree with you 100%
But that's how it's meant to be. If everyone delivered what they promise, we'd all be rich here :) The secret is to be smart enough to find gems among garbage. That's why I tell people to first invest in their knowledge. If you're smart enough, you'll naturally make better decisions. Most of the time people disagree with my advise and waste the money making stupid mistakes anyway.

Remember some people are better at teaching than they are at doing. That doesn't necessity mean one is clever than the other, it's just how different people make use of the same information.

it's business after all, and not all of those who play the game win it. After all it's about mature thinking, you cannot expect to pay 5$ and get a ROI of 10000%

While my team doesn't charge quite as low as your example, we provide legit high quality content at a good rate.
I earn from both writing for others as well as writing for my own websites though.

I totally agree with OP and the second poster.. couldn't have said it better ;)

That's like saying why do wholesalers wholesale, when they could just sell whatever they're selling themselves.

Some people know how to build websites but not how to promote them. Everybody should stick to what they are good at and learn and develop others skills on the side.

The same message will be translated differently among the same members of the same group. That's why teams outperform if chosen wisely.

You have this assumption that posting your own articles automatically makes you money.

It's not as easy as that.

I know some guy who posted hundreds of articles on his blog but never made a profit.

Besides, writing is not a commodity but a skill. Writers are providing a service. Just like an architect or engineer. Why don't they make their own skyscrapers or buildings?

I don't hate anyone who makes a business selling stuff to people, but if your content is good why not maximize profit? I like the idea of using your best stuff for your own and the stuff not quite up to par you sell off to others.

Like I said most guys offering their excellent writing are just providing spun content.

And if you know of some guy who has hundreds of articles on his site and is making no money send him my way. Might be able to get him and myself a few bucks :)

Another very important part you are missing OP is that there are many aspects to making money online - content alone is not enough, you need a great idea, motivation, your own spin on an idea, keyword research, understanding of your market and target audience, content, knowing how to present your content and close sales, on site optimization, off site optimization and the list goes on.

I am sure there are many service providers that sell their services AND make money from their own sites, but I am sure there are also many service providers that are very good at one part of the overall process and so rather than struggle trying to understand the other components they sell the part that they are very good at and leave the rest of the puzzle to the buyer.

I know what my problem is, a jack of all trades and master of none :)

Like I hate to pay a mechanic $100 plus an hour, so I do it myself

I repair my own house, paint it myself, do plumbing, build my own quad copters blah blah blah

If you want good quality work, you got to pay a good quality wage. Just like youtube. If you want a high quality video, it may cost thousands. If you just want any garbage, it may cost a few bucks.

Earning money from a website is not just building it or writing the content, it requires other skills as well and it could be quite time consuming. Some people might get a better ROI from writing or creating websites for others and so on. So it's not surprising that such services exist and have clients. There are just different people with different skill sets and so on.

Of course, it's to be expected that a good deal of the services that are offered would be of low quality and three are a lot of BS claims like the pay $30 to earn $5000 which is just unrealistic or would require a crazy amount of high quality work that is not included in the $30 initial product.

Some people start off by writing articles or any other service. For many of us it's where the first $$$ come from the world of IM. After a couple of years of working on these side-projects, many go on to build their own websites or build their own content writing agency/platform. It's just going up the ladder for the vast majority of people here.
