hey folks, just wanna pop in and give a general heads up to all you toyota truck owners.

We were gonna visit family friday night but then discovered that some d1psh1t stole our catalytic converter....IN BROAD DAYLIGHT

Turns out that there has been a rise in the theft of catalytic converters because they contain metals such as platinum and junk yards are paying between $50 to $100 per converter....

If i were you, i'd spend a little bit of time and money securing your catalytic converter.... We'll probably be out $1k (or more if there is any extra damage done to the wiring or fuel line)....not sure what we can do to prevent this kind of theft in the future....will see what our mechanic recommends.

Personally, i wish there was a special glue you could buy ....so if someone tried to steal it again they'd be stuck under the car.... or better yet, a laser to slice the SOB's hands off to hang off the rear view mirror....

:D

tonlilaz, to get something like that replaced, yeah, its between 1k and 2k, there were a few car dealerships that got hit, apparently someone took the catalytic converters off of more than half of each dealership. they hit 3 places. so im sure they brought in some good money.... stolen money though
anyways, there's a way you can prevent it actually, they make a cover that goes over the exhaust pipe , kinda like whats already on it, but bigger, or you can get the undercarriage cover. that would stop them quick.
what the idiots don't know is that older cars, have better ones because they have more of the honeycomb platinum in it.
they generally go for 200 bucks a piece for an older car.
so, new or old, make sure you keep an eye on your car. and buy a night vision camera. i have one outside of my house, its security. and you can identify the guy if anything were to ever happen.

Yeah, they've been doing it for a while because there is platinum in a catalytic converter. Thieves must have just figured it out in your area. Sorry to hear they got you, in broad daylight takes some balls.

Not only should the police be looking for the thieves but also the junkyards who are buying them. The thieves have to sell them to somebody. Maybe there should be more regulation such as putting a serial number on them so they can be tracked, kind of like a VIN number. Make it illegal to buy them without a serial number.

But I'm sure that will have to be brought up to your state senator in order to make it the law.

They're after platinum AND palladium.

The biggest problem is with the labor to install it. I put custom exhaust on my vehicles and High flow Catalytic converters. The after market converters are pretty cheap and work really well. Goog "high flow replacement catalytic converter" and you'll see what I mean.

May as well add a whole new exhaust and will still be under $500-$2k if you go really high end.
