I am glad this has been implemented. Recently there has been too many of these "free XX rep&thanks plox" threads. This isn't necessarily a problem but a lot of them won't deliver...

To be honest i didn`t read the whole post, but I think that the post here should be free for everybody. Not posts like "I will pick 3 random posters" or similar. Maybe it will be better to give that free to three first posters and then the thread is closed. No discrimination is made!!!

I don't think it's always a good idea to just let the first person posting win something.
I recently gave away two MNS EMD keywords, one of "normal" quality and a really high quality one and I wanted that a noob wins the high quality one, because its more likely that he couldn't find/buy one himself.
In the end a Jr. Vip won the normal kw and a noob (< 1 month, < 20 posts) won the second keyword, everybody was happy and in my opinion it was fair.

This I believe is a step in the right direction =)

What if we want to offer something to JrVips only ?

You can you just can't create a contest. You can make requirements based on things like rep, Jr VIP, posts, etc. as part of the giveaway but you can't ask for anything in return.

For example: I will give X whatever to the first 10 Jr VIPs with 5,000,000+ rep

You can't say I will pick someone at random that posts here.

Finally I was kind of sad because I too was a victim of this when I first came here and also a few weeks ago out of like 7 twitter followers giveaways I think I only got mines like 3 times.

Great initiative from BHW. This is going to be a hammer for those who abuses the forum. Agreed that people offer freebies and never delivers, happened a couple of times with me. Loving it.

I agree with most of the points Pofecker pointed out, but the one where he mentioned about going into people's private messages on BHW to make sure rules are being followed, that wasn't something I expected to hear.

I was giving away free traffic to people, and I did it because at the moment, I am not a donor, and it's the least I can do to give back to the users from this site. I always delivered the traffic, unless I was backed up, which took the process a little longer to complete. And never did I ask for thanks or try to get people's data.

Anyways, having someone go into people's PM boxes should put everyone on notice at BHW. Maybe I was naive or whatnot, but I thought PM boxes were solely for the user who signed up to BHW. I never thought the reach of the mods or admins would even think about dipping in to make sure things were on the up and up.

I understand it was said in the context of the freebie/giveaway people, but still. Not something people like to hear at all. The course I will take on this site is to keep helping out people as much as I can, mostly to newbies as I am one myself, but no more giveaways from me.

Mods/Admins, please tell us you guys don't routinely check PM boxes. Not that I have anything to hide, but man, this is not cool to do at all, in general.

Just to clarify, only administrators can read pm's. It's a feature that's in vBulletin and probably available on most forums.

We only use the feature to research scams and find out if people are selling via the PM system.

As I appreciate your concerns, it's not something that's been abused here.

Being here for the short time that I have, I expected this reply from you. It didn't seem like a place that does it on a consistent basis to everyone, so when I initially saw the list of stuff, that jumped out at me a bit.

Some forums you get power crazy admins and mods who like to throw their weight around when it's not even needed, and I haven't witnessed it here at all, which is refreshing. So yes, your reply is in line with what my first and continuing impression of how BHW is run.

Thanks again for the reply, it was much needed.

can i give users a coupon codes to a website? and how can i do that without breaking the rules

Great idea and needed.

Question, if we do give away something that requires a URL does that break the rules?

As long as the URL doesn't go to your website or a site where the users information is gathered.

I could see how giving out invites would require the visitor to sign up to a site though.

The long and short of it is that BlackHatWorld won't tolerate any information gathering by means of giving something away. We don't want members to just to turn back around and try to sell or communicate with the person in the future under the guise of giving something up for free.

*** If in doubt, PM a staff member or the section mod -Jericho- an example to be safe!

If you profit in any way, shape or form, it's the same as posting an affiliate link and you'll be banned.

High step indeed, only the genuine guys giving out things for free can abide by the rules. For the record, i've got ten's of names that are pure scammer's who never filled up their promises, and the worst part is that my rep was given and thanks to them.Nice step BHW.

@Pofecker,

Can we disable bump to top for this section? Like the threads at DP and WSO at WF.
Mostly people ask to post in the thread to claim the freebie giving them an unnecessary bump which can be avoided using that feature.

Just my 0.02 :)

Curious,

If one is giving away a freebie, which I often do in my normal everyday business stategies, does anyone give something of value away for free and never expect somethng in return, as in, creating a new potential customer in the future, so how is no profit defined? Certainly when I give away something for free, it is to create reciprocal referral, or future business, and this is always connected to profit of some kind at some point in time, is it not?

Free is a dubious marketing word, as well as a powerful one, but it can and has been overused with many not so free deals, or the typical upsells we all hate. I am looking for a little more clarity on how you define free. If one is giving away a free oofer, item or service of value without ever expecting any profit in return, I want to know what it is. Never came across one before that was not being given with no intent of profit or gain in the future. Any examples would be helpful to avoid breaking the rules.

Thanks,
