I have a URL with facebook in the title, I offer jobs working via facebook, I also use the facebook logo.


I just got a email stating that I should remove the URL because I may be damaging there rep.

They threaten legal action.

Do they have a point..

Yes . . . For instance, if you bought a domain name entitled youtubevideos.com, or a domain name called microsoftnews.com, you can bet that you would hear from their legal representatives. Same holds true for Facebook.

Using trade names within your domain name is a big no-no and an invitation to a lawsuit.

Just a thought though, what above any other site that has got a company logo in the url myyahoo.com or something like that, or is it the fact I use there logo is the problem..
 
Yep, risky business. I'd do as they ask in this istance. A corporate lawsuit v an individual is only likely to go one way im afraid.
 
You have no options. Drop the domain and start over again with something like

fbjobs.com
 
even rapidshare is doing that. I had a friend who owned rapidsharepremiumaccounts.com and ICCAN took it from him without even asking, Rapidshare lawyers sent him a C&D letter and 1 week later the domain went bye bye :D

if you don't drop it you can be sure they will take it from you... and remove their logo from your site, FFS
 
You just have to think of more creative ways to dupe them. You'll get it, dont give up.
 
In my opinion, i would keep the url and say fuck them but i would def remove their logo from your site

IMO, thats the dumbest thing I think ive ever read on here. Why in the world, would someone in their right mind, ignore a letter from FB legal team, when youre using their name in a domain? I sure hope nobody ever takes legal advice from you.
 
Cut your losses and move, nothing else can be done. This is something you cannot win so don't waste your time or energy on it. Spend the same time building something else.

I would go with the hxxp://www.fb(yourkeyword).com domain. It will keep you out of trouble. Tweak the logo a little bit...just enough so that it doesn't look identical to theirs.
 
Sorry, You dont have to like my opinion, but thats what i would do.
I dont care how big they are. As long as its not using the url to make a social networking site and as long as im not stealing their logo..fuck them

The OP didnt say he had the word facebook in the domain name - he said TITLE

Listen - you have the word facebook inside your domain name.

Any plonker can put the word facebook in the title tag of a URL.
 
Its strange that how can they threat you for an legal action......... I guess keeping a name like facebook in URL is not that offensive... but yes you should not keep their logo.

If you want more help then you can go to other legal forums and get your doubt clear

It's not strange at all. "Facebook" is a trademark.

You might be able to hold onto the domain for a while until they find out but as soon as they want you to get rid of it you'll have to. It's not worth it.
 
Plus: they might sue you for their share of the money you made with the website/business. Because you used the copyrighted trademark.
If they ever do anything... :)
