Gmail just updated where they have a seperate tab called promotions.

Under this tab all emails from auto responders ( aweber, get response etc) are listed.

So now open rates are going to be WAY down.

My solution.

Host your own auto responder on your website and have you talk to your list that way. That way its not filtered and put into ``promotions``

Google is cracking down again.

Not seeing this on any of my gmail accounts yet but this would hurt a lot if they implemented these changes across the board.

Anyone else noticing it in their gmail accounts?

Sadly, I did .
F*cking Google, I don't see how legit email marketing was hurting their clients.

@OP, even if you host your own autoresponder, you have to include the unsubscribe button, i think that's how they categorize promotion stuff.

Ouch. I don't see this in my gmail account yet. Everything still shows up under one inbox. I do notice under Configure Inbox, there are tabs to enable and Primary, Social, and Promotions are checked. Try unchecking some and see what happens.

Yeap, this is the new change that Gmail did this days...
They did not updated on all their user and servers but soon this will be the new gmail for all users.

Im pretty sure its going to happen by sept for everyone.

They are even getting rid of external adword keyword tool.

I can confirm as well, changes were updated today when first logging in. Perhaps it's time to stick to Wysija and self-hosted.

Actually, there are a lot of legit email marketers that I know who are still using aweber.

I don't see it on any of my accounts yet either.

I agree that open rates will drop, but I also think click through rates may well rise. It will be interesting to see what happens.

This is being implemented in my region (New Delhi). Basically there are three tabs now.They are
1) Primary 2) Social and 3) Promotions

Primary is your default email display.

Social contains all your alerts from twitter,facebook and youtube subscriptions.

Promotions tab contains all the updates from newsletters which you have subscribed to.
