Want to develop Local Directory

Hello Dears!

I want to develop local directory. Anybody here who already has local directory? Please tell me what my budget should be for this and also essential things I would require for this..

Also Should I go with Local Directory? Is it Profitable to start local directory?

Any Suggestions! would be appreciated.

Do not use Classipress for Wordpress ... it is not secure and doesn't scale well.
 
I am willing to do something like that i think i can do actually what you wanted.
 
There are a lot of scripts ready made out there. I was thinking of the same thing, going something like yellow pages kind of idea. Not really sure what script to go with, defiantly not going with any wordpress theme. Not sure if anyone has experience with any scripts they could recommend.

I have built and owned many directories over the years and they have all made money!

However they need to be set up right and have a solid and stable script that has many directory structure options...

The set up costs vary to what specification and market you are providing for!

directorypress by premiumpress is pretty cool. Supports both paid listings and paid memberships as well.
 
I use Directory Press for a niche directory. But I built the directory just to link to all my own sites in the niche, LOL. Looks like a legit directory, just happens to link to all my money sites!
 
You sound experienced. What template would you recommend for a medical stores (India) directory?

Local directories are good for cash, sure, but even better for getting links. Require free listings to have a link back to a page of your choosing. You can choose any page, such as some other website that you own! I do this a lot and it really does work well for getting lots of legitimate local businesses to link to your money properties. Good rankings for sure!
 
Local directories makes cash if you really niche them, they are great traffic generators. It all depends what you build them on. Please get a specialized software for it, don't use wordpress with some plugins. Go to

Select what platform you want it in, then get a premium account with a dedicated IP from HostGator for 1 year. It includes an SSL and a 800 number for like $100. Many scripts will have demo and a specialization. Look for futures you want to offer like video, reviews, votes, etc. You could be a real money making with a budget of about $500. And this talking with brandable domain .com,.net,.org, maybe .us and not some EMD. This is to build a quality site.

I too am doing this and am using a Premium Plugin "Directory" by WPMU premium site. I am incorporating it into my theme with shortcodes on pages and it looks really good. They also have a default theme for it as well.
