While Texas definitely has more rednecks per-capita than most states, they also have Austin, which is famous for its liberals and hippies.
I think it's better to look at America through the rural vs. urban divide. Other countries can relate to that divide too. Most of the red states have cities with liberal holdouts, and most blue states have rural areas with more conservatives. In a city the populations tend to be more multicultural and educated. In rural areas, secondary schools are more scarce, and the population is homogeneous. These conditions foster the differences.

The US is on the path of a planned failure. After WWII the USD was made the world reserve currency for settling international trades; and more USDs were created to accommodate that need. Now more and more countries are eliminating that dependency. As a result standard supply/demand pressures will cause the USD to fall worldwide. Ad to that all the social programs, fat, and lack of people who respect the work ethic, and you have a plan for collapse. In addition, if you understand law in the US, you know that there is no longer any law here as well. The US DOJ and the US Courts do as they please regardless of the law or constitutional limits. It is no longer the land of liberty or the land of the free.
In conclusion, you have to be afraid of the "law" and you are constantly concerned when the collapse will occur.

I'll tell you something: the attitude by most people online is utterly reprehensible in this regard and in most others. I'm not sure if the human race is simply evolving (or devolving) into something ugly and insensitive or our exposure to one another on the internet has desensitized us to the feelings of others, but I remember a time online (and I'm going back well over a decade) where people behaved with the kind of respect and decency you would find if you were to meet the collective in person. Wherever you go nowadays - IMDB boards, forums like this, chat rooms - people are such cruel and unpleasant little b*stards. I remember when the internet was a much friendlier place. It's ugly now. And made so by the people in it.

We must be living in a different worlds, because the first time I experienced Internet over IRC channel and got insulted by 3 people at once for nothing, it ended up with a RL fight (luckily we were from the same country). People are much more tolerant now than before. I would say that some are way too tolerant to survive the next decade.

It sounds like we are, indeed, living in different worlds. My memory of the internet's genesis is the total antithesis. Maybe you just had bad luck! No, if I recall chat rooms, especially, people were pleasant and chatted in much the same way you'd expect if you were to meet in person at a bar or some such place. It reminds me of the first episode of Big Brother. Everyone acted as they do in real life because they'd had no experience of watching the show or much reality tv in general. So you had people doing things they would do in real life (made for great TV!). In later years, more BB-savvy, they acted less like they would in real life. The internet is really just the same. If the bunch of us met in a bar, most of you would be nice and polite, having a laugh, and so forth. Yet on a forum, cut off in a way from the reality of human connection, many of you are more inclined to give in to instincts that you would never allow in a real life social setting: cruelty, petulance, intolerance. When the internet was new, people still acted as they do in real life. Most people. It's logical if you think it through.

Us would be cool, going there on holidays next year around the whole country for 2 months. Really looking forward to it but as they say there is no place like home and I couldn't see myself living any where else than where I am now.

This brings back some good memories. A group of us used to do this a lot when I was back in college (some 80 million years ago). You'll have a great time, just be really careful and don't go on your own. America is very dangerous (which is why, when back home, I prefer my protective bubble!).

Funny one minute you're talking about the lack of Internet civility and then you are commenting that America is very dangerous. Like the rest of the world your danger level is totally dependent on the neighborhood! And chat rooms always had their share of aholes!

Yes for sure, I'm going with another friend and its a proper tour, run by a company here, contiki tour, so there will end up being about 30 people or so as I'm led to believe. Going to Thailand as well next month so I think I have hit that travel bug part of my life

I fail to see how I am being uncivilized if I warn a nice Australian (unfamiliar with which neighborhoods are dangerous) to be careful when visiting what is a dangerous country. I didn't say I didn't like the country. I love it. It's my own country. But it is dangerous, especially for outsiders who are new to it and intend to travel around it.
I'd like to thank you for your post, however. It does add a little extra credence to my hypothesis. I'm amazed that my post recommending a nice guy be careful when traveling around my country (simply because I don't want harm to come to him) can cause such a reaction from you. Most peculiar. "And chat rooms always had their share of aholes!" That wasn't being disputed.

I think the most relevant division is the 53% of the Producers and the 47% of the Parasites that vote the life's efforts of those that produce into the pockets of those that do not. What strikes me as most appalling is the complete and utter lack of any shame on the part of the dependent class. They REALLY believe they are entitled to the proceeds of someone else's efforts, and become quite hostile when they are told otherwise.
