Wait before making links or go brrrrrrrrrr?

Hello,

I'm getting back into seo after a 4-5 year break, back then we often advised to wait 1-2 months for a new site before doing PBN / Guest post / web 2.0 boost types links.
( 1-2 months -> only social links + pr )

Has this changed or it depends the niche?

you can start right away, but do it slowly...

I think it's about site history and freshness more than the niche.

For example, if your site is new (new sites usually don't have backlinks since nobody knows about them yet) acquiring 100s of links in week 1 could raise a flag. Or, if the site is not new (say it's 2 years old), but hasn't acquired a single backlink in its 2 years existence - again - throwing 100 backlinks at it within a few days could raise a flag, as well.

That's why I think the focus should be on link velocity instead of the niche.

But if you're talking about churn & burn sites, well... those can (and probably should) be abused hard since they're short-lived anyway, so you want them ranked ASAP

Adding on to the point our exec @tazarbm made, you have to look at it from Googles point of view.

If you have al ready established social media presence and create a website about it, getting 100s of links in the first month would make sense because there’s already an existing group of people who know about your brand.

However, if this is a brand new site with no connection to anything else, why would so many readers stand up for something that was just created?

Your first two months should be about building properties on social networks/social bookmarks/web 2.0s. Building something that looks authentic around your brand.
