    Hey guys,

Wachahost was down :(. For less than an hour it seems. Just before we crashed, I was getting alot of "critical" email messages warning me about over usage. So one would think that the crash was related to sky high load on the server.

I am going to sift through the logs today and see what happened. But just at a glance, it looks like Wordpress WP Cron is the one to blame (Google it, you will see how many issues there is with this particular part of wordpress).

Issues with WP Cron are usually caused by people overloading the Ping list in their wordpress installation with dead ping URL's. For some reason WP tries to re-ping these over and over for new posts. If you had 10k new posts because of an autoblog or BHWP installation, then just one dead ping URL will result in 10k bad pings, which from my understanding would timeout etc. But in that time hanging the server.

One user with this isn't bad. But given that almost every one of our customers is running Wordpress, pretty much 99% of those are people from BHW or marketers running the most ludicrous amounts of SEO plugins and massive Pinglists, and then add on top the fact that Autoblogs are all the rage these days, you can definitely see how this would cripple the server.

I will contact those users today and see what we can do to ease everything.

Apologies once again for the downtime.

If your webhosting is so poor quality that it crashes down sometimes, get webhosting from some other higher quality webhosting.. If my webhosting would get down, even for a one minute i would ask all my moneys for payback.

We had to reboot again just now (5 Minutes or so of downtime).

For anyone who thought wordpress was a "low load" CMS. Here is my Apache print out of all the currently running processes :

Users will now be suspended based upon extended high CPU usage.

Not trying to be an ass, but have you ever worked for a hosting company? Shit happens and server issues arise with the best of them. From HostGator to Liquid Web and on down the line servers go down and that is the nature of the beast.

I think the fact that he is addressing the issue and keeping his customers aware of what is happening is outstanding customer service.
