VPS vs Shared Hosting - Which Should I Use?

I have 5 wordpress websites that I currently need to move to a new hosting company.

Each site gets approximately 100+ daily visitors.

The sites are very low on resources as they do not have many images or videos.

Should I go with shared or VPS hosting? I am not tech savvy.

All hosting options have their pros and cons. The more you going towards isolating your sites from others, the more things you would have to handle yourself, unless you go for managed hosting option (extra monthly fee). Shared hosting is usually managed and you dont need to bother with many things but as its name says, its shared, that means if others abuse it, its going to affect your sites performance as well and depending on security someone could be browsing your files as if they were theirs.

Now, depending on use case, you might want to get shared hosting to save yourself from bullshit you have to deal when setting up VPS or Dedicated.
For your particular case since traffic is pretty low, you could just go with shared since its dirt cheap and already setup. It really depends if your sites are making any money, if they do, you obviously want to isolate them from any performance hiccups. If they don't but you still want to keep them alive, just go with shared, it wont hit your bank acc, rather your pocket and of course, you could always move them to higher specs later on.

I think you can just go for shared hosting if each of your site didn't have so much visitors per day.

i completely agree with @djelica on this, just to add little more i suggest you to go with shared hosting but with separate accounts for each domain.
 
As per present traffic stats i am pretty sure you can still continue with Shared Hosting.
VPS might need when you hit daily 1k visitors and resource needs will also increases.
 
Shared hosting is fine for this amount of traffic.

lets say if your hosting account has cpu limit 1 core 1gb physical memory when you host multiple domains on same accounts it will cause your websites to run slow as most of the companies are now a days using cagefs.
but if you have separate accounts for each of your domains you will get 1 core 1 gb ram for each of your website.
as i am hosting provider too so i know people miscalculate this

Hey thanks alot for the explanation. Can you please dumb it down for me as I am new to this.

When you say "shared hosting with multiple addons is not suitable for running sites"
Question 1: By shared hosting you mean plans like these? https://www.namecheap.com/hosting/shared/
Question 2: What do you mean by multiple addons?

When you say "if you have separate accounts for each of your domains you will get 1 core 1 gb ram for each of your website."
Question 3: Does this mean signing up for multiple accounts like these? So for each site I would have one VPS account? https://www.namecheap.com/hosting/vps/
Question 4: If you have a hosting plan, do let me have a look too. Could be interesting to see options available.

Stay with shared for as long as you can. As a new (I presume) site, with only 500 daily visitors all up, you should be fine. It's when you get around 10k visitors per day you should start to worry. So I say stay with shared hosting until your site grows too much where you reach your resource limits, then get a VPS.

WordPress uses a lot of resources as it opens a new MySQL connection with every visitor, as a reference - I was maxing out 2GB of RAM thus maxing out my MySQL processes and crashing the site with 100 users on at one time even with LiteSpeed and LSCache. You need a more powerful VPS, LiteSpeed, LSCache. Before you know it you're paying $60-80 a month to run your site.
 
It will take a little searching for what you are looking. There are too many hosting providers out there who can cater your needs. Search around find the right hosting that is in your budget and talk to them what will you be charged for the plan you are choosing. I wont recommend any hosting site as of right now because I am newbie here and the one I am availing services of is quite good.

yes when i say shared hosting i mean exactly what you are referring. We hosting providers offer multiple domains to be hosted on single shared hosting account, some offer unlimited addon domains to that single shared hosting account. see the image for the first plan of namecheap http://prntscr.com/n6dtkp

every shared hosting account has resource limits which are tuned by hosting provider, lets say i have 3 plans in first very basic plan i offer 1 gb memory 1 cpu core,
and in second plan i offer 2 gb and 1.5 cores and so on, but i also offer extra domains can be hosted in same basic shared hosting plan,
now you bought the basic plan with primary domain xyz.com resources remains the same 1 gb 1 core. but then you added extra domains in same shared hosting account as addon domains, remember your package is same 1gb 1core basic shared hosting, as i said in my previous reply hosting providers are using cagefs so the account will be stricted to use that single core and 1 gb ram, you will end up abusing resources or slow website at the end.

what i simply mean is just buy multiple shared hosting accounts for each of your domains.

:D a vps costs around 5$ and shared-hosting costs around 3$. The gap between prices and speed you got from both is worth to switch to vps:rolleyes:. Just saying
 
If you can manage vps yourself then vps best for you. A good unmanaged vps cost you around $10 per month. If you can't managed yourself then reseller hosting work best.

OP is not looking for hosting company, he is rather looking to decide on the type of hosting he require:rolleyes:
