I just purchased a vps with 5 extra ip addresses. How do I use these ip addresses as proxies, such as port, username, password etc.? Any help will be greatly appreciated

I don't want to discourage you from trying, but I hope you weren't expecting a quick solution. If you don't even know where to start then I feel safe in assuming you've never worked with Squid or any of the other proxy tools. Assuming you've got Linux experience you would want to start there. Make sure you set aside some time and have a little patience because it's probably going to take a little while to really get the hang of it, but from the people I know that have learned, once you do you'll be able to set them up in the future very quickly. Good luck with it, and look through here because there's a handful of tutorials that have been posted here in this section.

I'm just curious as to why you guys think a VPN is so much more reliable than a proxy server? I would think the opposite due to the fact that the IPs that are used for a VPN are used by many people, with proxies you usually know exactly how many people are using the IP and if you get fully dedicated proxies it is only you using the IP.
In this way if someone is using the same IP as you on a VPN and you're doing work the IP could get banned at anytime. Your thoughts and your experiences with both types of IP masking services would be appreciated.
