VPS necessary?

Hi,

I'm about to embark on some scraping and spamming.

I'm wondering if I need a VPS? I would rather not as its just an extra cost, but I like the fact it's always on and easy to scale if needed and also it means I can use my PC for other things.

It's just that I have social accounts of my own that Ive built up for years, so would hate to get banned on one of these.

You think it's possible I could just use a virtual desktop (like vmware, or virtualbox), so all browser, cookies etc is kept clean/separate. Or is it possible my IP will be leaked (through proxies)?

If I do go with a new VPS, is it necessary to go with a company outside of my legal jurisdiction?

Can you explain why you think you need a VPS because I don't think you are pretty clear on it, so, I can help you!

This part sounds reasonable. To avoid any leakage just use elite or high anonymous proxies.

To answer your question: I need a VPS because:

I need to hide my IP
With proxies I'm worried where proxies say they are elite but arent, so IP is shown.
I need to do downloading also through it (maybe some p2p etc)
Scraping with it
Perhaps some fake traffic here and there
Email sending etc

I'm a linux admin so can easily set this up, but it would be much easier/cost less to do it at home.

I think these answers have answered my question. It seems none of the issues will exist if I use a virtual desktop. The only issue is that I have to keep the computer on 24/7 - which is not impossible :)

The key issue I'm worried about with proxies is if they say they are elite, but arent (so my ip gets shown) - it only takes once. You think it's worth getting a VPS on this basis alone? or just another expense really?

If you do not want to get banned at your main accounts, using VirtualBox and private VPN would do the job. If you are using same internet, same computer, you still risk with your main accounts. PM me if you want to know more.

Just wondering, so does it go out like this:

VirtualMachine -> VPN -> Elite Proxy???

If so, nice one :) I reckon all I have to do is set up open VPN, and then set up proxies as normal - should be easy :)
 
You could use proxies alone, or vpn, or both, or a vps along with proxies etc. Many options.
