So I have invested in a VPS for the first time to run a few programs, but when I log in it is so slow, everything just lags so bad when I try and set something up. I'm in Australia and the VPS is in Europe somewhere, so my question is, what is are all VPS like that? or is it because of the distance? Or does it have to do with my home upload/download speeds? I suppose what im asking is what can be done to reduce this? Better provide? closer to home? Home internet connection? Look forward to any help.

You could have provided some vital information like your home internet download/upload speed?

No, it has nothing to do with your internet connection.

It seems like your VPS is low end. What are its specs, i.e., RAM? Where did you purchase it?

You can optimize the connection according to your internet speed.

e.g. If you are using Windows XP and Remote Desktop Connection,

Go to Options > Experience and select a suitable option.

Totally disagree! If OP's connection is slow, he can buy the most expensive and higher spec'ed VPS available and he will still have a crippled experience.

Around 7.8Mbps down and .8 upload. I did a speed test on the VPS and got 40Mbps down and 90 up. I will try and reduce the textures and stuff and see how that goes.

Other information that could explain the problem: With what company do you do business with to rent your VPS?

As I told you before you lnternet speed is fine. My speeds are even lower than that.

What are the VPS's specifications like?

What is the speed of your website? Javascript sliders, jquery forms and scripts, and heavy PNG files are among the causes when your site loads slow. Another reason is a huge database. Check the resources on your VPS like core, memory, and disk space. It will also help if you can provide the process you use as this can also be the cause.

The issue may be related to ISP network department, few of the ISPs such as BACLOUD in europe has the similar problems. so you are suggested to please contact the ISP directly to get this issue fixed.
