VPS Guide - From start to Finish

I think you have made a nice guide on this VPS service. and dont have any prejudice against your earning link.

Let me say that a VPS server can give you some performance boost and its useful if you are running number of sites. You can add many site and you can also customize the server. Some of you can also rent some hosting services to closes to cover some costs!!!
 
How many sites would you put on a VPS like the one you talked about setting up in the tut?

Depends on traffic/website.

Using WP, I recommend either multisite+caching, or single + caching. Then scale up as needed. :)
 
I would also add that XEN VPS are usually better from the point of performance than OpenVZ ones (XEN is little bit more expensive though), because OpenVZ platform allows overuse of physical resources of host machine and XEN does not as far as i understand.

Seriously, does it really matter that much? He obviously put effort into this guide, I don't mind seeing them at all. In fact, if I did plan on purchasing anything within this post, I'd use his affiliate links.

Just two questions:

  • OP's said that G00gle usually considers shared IP Addresses to be a bad thing. I guess that 1 VPS gives you right to use just 1 IP so, if you go down the multisite road, wouldn't all those pages hosted on your VPS share the same IP?
I'm asking because I'm about to start Microniche for Adsense method and, though I'm more likely to choose VPS for hosting (rather than reseller plan, which is my 2nd option), I'm afraid that using the same IP for all my sites will make it very easy for G00gle to identify all my pages together. So when one black sheep site is punished, the whole flock will be slapped too...

I've heard you can buy more IPs, but I don't know whether this is possible or not for VPS sites. Anyway, I suppose those IPs would be consecutive numbers or tightly related ones, as they belong to the same hoster. What are your thoughts on this?


Last question:

  • As said above, I plan to build a lot of microniche sites for Adsense +landings for CPA. What hosting formula would you choose if your knowledge about servers/coding equalled to zero? Fully managed VPS or Reseller plan? (On this, my main concern is to shorten both learning curve / maintenance work, in order to focus just on marketing my business.)

I usually order as many IPs as I can get. If you've got a limited technical know-how, consider getting cPanel installed for you.

There are many hosts who do this, infact the main sponsor of BHW does it for $15 a month, with additional IPs only a few dollars extra a month.

I'm currently using them for some of my sites, and you can manage ALL your sites through cPanel if that's what you need to do - it's so easy that a few people who I host for are quite adept at it now :).

If you want a unique IP for all websites, make sure you go with a variety of different hosts. I'm with about 5 at the moment, and each website for a niche is on a seperate network, in a seperate country. A few might be through hostwinds, a few might be through rackspace, a few might have cloudflare, etc.

A quick one: I've been reading about C-class IPs... are they necessary for what I intend to do or common IPs will suffice?

I mean, I'd like to defend a bunch of microniche MFAs and CPA landings against G00gle's anger, so that if one of my sites happens to be penalized in the search results (or deindexed...), the rest of my sites be safe.

So, though I can buy several VPS's in different hosts and several IPs for each VPS (as you advice me to do), I suppose that the IPs supplied by any given host will belong to the same C-class (due to all the sites hosted in any VPS are physically kept into a unique server, which is located into a unique datacenter).

If C-class makes not difference other than for private blog network linking and such backlinking schemes, then I can do without C-class, as I intend to outsource backlinking. All I need is to make things difficult for G00gle to list my sites alltogether.
