Im planning to use my vps speed and download torrents. Once the file is downloaded, I want to transfer them to my external harddrive. The speed of transferring is dependent on my external harddrive writing speed right? Presumably usb 3.0 is the fastest transfer?
    Thanks

Unless you believe that the data from the vps will magically teleport to your pc, the bottleneck is your home connection to the vps 's datacenter - which is always lower than the speed of any hard-drive that 's not 20 years old. :)

If you have the file on your pc/laptop and moving it to external drive then yeah usb 3.0 is highly recommended. But with a single movie 1-4gb file then the hard disk speed is not the main issue but your internet connection.
