VPN for Downloading torrents?

Hello,

I'm a noob for this kind of stuff but would like to learn.

VPN (virtual private networks) help protect your internet activity remain anonymous from your ISPs correct? So of all the recommended VPN's what is the most recommended ones to use strictly for downloading torrents. Anybody recommend a good one? BTGuard, HMA, Tor Guard, or anything really good? Are the free ones out there any good?

Some VPNs such as hidemyass look pretty tempting to join but after some due diligence, it seems that they log your internet activity and actually kick people out for downloading torrents such as movies, music, ebooks, and etc. I don't plan to download anything illegal but it's good to know what options are out there just in case.

I'm also concerned with server locations. Let's say I live in a country with strict downloading laws such as Japan (law states anybody downloading music and shit can serve up to 2 years in prison). So in regards to having optimal downloading speed, should I get a VPN that has servers within the country I live or outside the country I live in that has lenient dl laws? Although the latter sounds smart, just want to know.

Don't use a VPN. It adds an extra layer of limited bandwith (vpn provider overselling.) Instead, use a seedbox that allows for SFTP (SSH, an encrypted stream like a VPN.) Your ISP won't know anything other than to where your connecting (the IP/domain.) The contents, file name, specified size are all hidden. It's also normal for certain people to use SSH for large files so its not out of the ordinary either.

I personally used pulsedmedia (aff link / non-aff link) on their 2009+ small plan. It gives you a 100mbps connection for seeding (great for IPT and other private trackers) and also downloading. They also have SSH and plenty of RAM. Get a massive ratio, download securely and much smaller price than many VPNs. Support is top notch (<12 hour response times when I was with them) and helpful.

Also, whether it matters to you or not the servers they use are from OVH, who is located in France. OVH is what practically every seedbox provider uses, so has the highest concentration of torrenters. You'll almost be guaranteed a local connection for stupid fast speeds and they dont care. The government doesnt care much either about downloading.
