Vmware Workstation questions..

Hello there!

So I have a quick Q regarding creation of new virtual machines with Vmware. Since this is my first time please be kind

I am trying to create around 3-4 virtual machines with Vmware but I got a few Qs:

- Each new virtual machine will eat some of my RAM only when I "Power on" that machine or even when I have it "Turned off"?

- Do I have to install an operating system each time I create a new virtual machine or can I somehow use the one already installed in my PC?

It will only consume the ram when it is powered on. If it is fully off then no ram. If its hibernating then that will use ram


You do need to install an os on each one, just as if its a new blank pc. You cant use your os as the virtual pc is a completely separate os. Thats why is good to use the virtual workstation as your not worried about viruses etc on your main pc. Theres plenty of torrents for xp and windows 7 around. Once you have one set up how you like it , you should be able to clone it to use for the other workstations

My suggestion is to create one vm with all your settings, then use the Clone option in VMWare to multiply vm's, basically create clones. It will take less time then installing the OS from scratch, plus it will be already pre configured with all you need. You may want to change the name and network settings of the VM and they will all be different.
