[VISUALIZED] Niche Sites <----> Authority Sites

Hey good ppl of BHW. I always see this question come up by newbies, even now I saw it on the front page. So here's a visualization of Niche sites vs Authority sites:




Niche Sites:

• Gain Topical Authority Quicker
• Easier to manage as starter sites
• Your audience is limited by niche
• Limited earning but limited effort required

Authority Sites:

• Needs more effort to start
• Newbies can get confused on the lack of ranking
• You can keep adding relevant 'niches' to expand your audience
• Can rank better on the long-run

A note: It's always good to choose a general domain name. With a general domain name you can start building a website as it was a 'niche site' and if you see success you can branch out to other topics in the same niche. So I would advise on choosing something general like 'thewildcanada' from the example. This domain name is perfect for starting any of the mentioned niches and it's also perfect for expansion.

Nope. An authority website means that the search engine (let's say Google) recognizes the website as an 'entity' which understands a certain topic very well. This means that because the search engine think the website understands the topic, any new articles will be ranked high on the first day of publishing. Forbes.com is just as much an authority as any local .gov website.

.gov websites do have a little boost in authority when it comes to search engines. '.gov' is considered a 'trusted' source since it is made by the government. This means that in certain questions Google will prefer .gov sites, but an authority website is different from a gov site.

I like your point about generic domain name like wildlifecanada, beautifulcanada, awesomecanade, etc. It's easy to expand with such domain names.

Very good and simple example for beginners.
Personally i pick the authority one, it's harder in the beginning but in the end your hard work will pay off, with the niche site you are quite limited.
