Visual C# or C++ book?

Hello, I recently bought a book on Visual C++ programming and everything was going extremely well until I found out that I have a better sence of English grammer than the author, that's basicly OK, but then I discovered that his source-code was wrong. I htought I was mistaken, but Google says that I'm right.

So my question is, do anybody of you know a good visual C# or C++ book?

You should know that C# and C++ are totally different things. I would recommend from my own experience if you are planning to learn C++ website called http://www.cplusplus.com and make yourself a goal what you want to achieve with C++.

I know, I'm just not sure what I'm going to start with :S I know that C++ is harder but way more powerful while C# is easier and a little "weaker". I'll check the website.

This is my online bookshelf at librarything.com containing the C and C++ books I downloaded from the internet. I haven't updated the list recently, but it's a good list to start with. By the way, I forgot if I have a list or account for my C# books.

Thats why you need a goal - just learning to program just for the sakes of it is waste of your time. You need to know the right tool for your job.
And C++ isnt hard - it might get though if you are planning to recreate photoshop : )

But if you are never planning to perform low level things then C# is your way to go.

I was thinking like bots, PM spammer, etc. I could use iMacros, but I would rather learn a real programming language to be able to create native applications. I might stick with C#.

ummm they are many websites which stick to bots creation i know few of them but they all prefer Visual Basic 6 and code their bots in VB6.

If you need to learn c++ try reading a book by Robert Lafore i read his book and it was preety good to understand

Yep it's good. Written by the C++ language creator himself. But "Thinking in C++" series are good too.

In that case I would recommend going for PHP instead. PHP has all the functionailities you need in that area already built in. You would end up recreating many things in C# or C++ which probably leads to giving up like it does in many cases.

By recreating I mean, for example in C++ to create a Link into Dialog it takes ~150<lines of code (If we leave MFC out). In C# it's already built in option. You just do it with one mouse click.

Same goes the other way around. In C# you would probably go nuts to create a simple crawler when you are just starting out. While in PHP you would have probably alot less trouble achieving the same thing.

Im not trying to encourage you to learn - just saying - it doesn't only take reading to understand the language, it comes with a price, usually lots of hours of pulling your hair out.
