Visiting Thailand

Pattaya != Thailand - For me it's the arsehole of Thailand, closely followed by Patong. Hire a car (except in Bangkok) and explore.

I think a thai girl talking loud is like the most annoying thing in the world.

I've had a chance to do some research and have decided to postpone the trip for later in the year and spend a month in Thailand. I might end up possibly moving there. Based on my research I have narrowed things down to Chiang Mai, Phuket, BKK and Pattaya with CM being the place I am heavily focused on moving if I like the area. I don't have a planned itinerary, but I definitely will be visiting those cities specifically. I'd appreciate feedback on the following.

1) What company/service do most people use over there for long distance phone calls from Thailand to the US/UK? I'm on the phone about 9-11 hours a day and its very important I have reliable phone service.

2) I need access to internet with reliable speeds in excess of 5MB download. 10MB or higher would be ideal, but I can make things work with less. I have heard that internet speeds vary and aren't as reliable compared to the US. Does anybody have experience with companies that offer reliable internet for cable or satellite?

Go prepared, take the test first.. LOL

CM is a good choice, if you don't want too much partying

when i was living in thailand i was using 12call sim cards, calling to the US/UK used to be 6-7baht/min if you dial 009 and then your country code/number , but if you use it for 9-11 hours/day then you should get a landline, prices are about the same

internet reliability depends on your location, cause it's mostly ADSL in thailand, check out the thaivisa forum, lots of useful info in there

You really should go to Phuket. I spent three months there last year, training Muay Thai. I had a professional fight over there too. It's the mot relaxing place ever. I really wanted to go back this year.

To be honest, I can't see where you are coming from.

Phuket is a tourist trap.

I had fun there, but it ranks low on beauty, and certainly on relaxation!

It has no authenticity.

For those of you who have relocated permanently to Thailand how do you get around the visa issues so that you can stay for years?

1 year Multiple Entry Visas are very easy to get in your own country

You have to leave the country every 90 days

if you decide to stay a long time an easy option is an Education Visa which can be extended upto 15 years, renewable every year, there are many things you can study (maybe even IM!)

The costs are about $800 a year

i own a phone business here...

1. u dial 009 then country code, then area then ur numer, missing the 0 off ur area code. uk .. 009 44 208 ( 0208 london code ) then ur number. is is 10 baht per min to land line and 15b to mobile. well i charge that but its actually 5b per call per min.

2.. 3BB new company offering 6MB. for 590b which i think is $20 a month. you can have higher like 8 / 16 etc but obviously more $$
to use an aircard u have around 3MB and u get ur secret life still

i love traveling counties like this
but i dont have money to by ticket and afford all
