Visiting Thailand

Thailand way too big and has a lot of places of interests to offer, so I'd say it is impossible to see it all within one short visit. Besides place would depend on what you actually {want|like} to {see|experience} Is it {sea|beach} you after or more urban relaxation. Peace of advise, do not book your vacation!!! just go there and follow your soul. I hear {many|a lot of} {disappointing|sad} stories from people who's followed {standard|boring} routes. It is Bangkok you should arrive to, stay there for couple of days, see things for yourself..

r u an expat or just tourist here.... im living in korat , but i got a house in siam country club , pattaya.

live in Thailand almost 2 years now but I am going up and down to Holland as I still have my primary business there so I usually spend about 5-8 cold European month in North-Pattaya
 
im amazed by the amount of BHatters in Thailand lol ..... would love to meet some of u guys . PM if this is possible, im in pattaya this week myself.

TO OP I advise NOT to go swimming in Pattaya apart from up the hill
 
It all depends on the sort of guy you are.

I spend 6 months in Thailand last year.

If you want hookers, then listen to most of the guys here - go to Bangkok (patpong, nana) or Pattaya. Not really my style!

If you want nice beaches, Ko Samui is your best bet.

The beaches on Koh Phangan are difficult to swim in, as the seabed is very rocky. The parties can be crazy this time of year as it's the cool dry season, but watch out - there are cops in disguise everywhere, and I got a nail through my foot just from walking around!

I had the best time in Chiang Mai, a city in the north. It's much cheaper. I was staying in a 2 floor penthouse apartment with 4 poster beds, at a cost of about $30 a night. It was called "yesterday".

Overall, Thailand is getting more expensive because their economy is growing and USA / UK economies are in trouble, causing exchange rates to get worse.

Several years ago, it was 80 baht to the pound. Now it's more like 50.
 
I am an expat in Patts as well. If you want a party kind of town with a lot of activity, come here.

So it was you who pissed in the sea last week being drunk!? lol Beach clear all the way, water better at north.. neighboring Jomtien and NaKlua water pretty okay, for spoiled travelers KoLarn, small island, 30 min speedboat form pattaya shore will do for sure.. crystal clear send and blue water.
 
Sounds like there is a BH meetup group in the making. ..lol

Thanks for the info guys. I'm looking to go over in September, so there is plenty of time to research things.

spent 3 years living just south of Chiang Mai. Still love the country now and miss it. Pattaya's a blast, but gets a bit tiresome after a fortnight I found. Never thought I'd get bored of rejecting girls haha :D

If you have time take a trip to Laos. Most beautiful country I've ever been to.

I just spent a couple of months in thailand and my favorite place by far is chiang mai.

I really hated bkk and pattaya... not my style. There are great places to go out in chiang mai and you can have lots of fun.

Stereotypes and double standards.. always makes me feel sad.. why Bangkok and Pattaya directly associated with hookers. There hookers all around the country, in fact all around the world. That being said, there more night clubs in Pattaya then it is in Rotterdam for example but I can still find a hooker in all and any big city in the world on every big street corner, no need to go that far.. it is not where you are, it is more who you are. Thailand is big and very beautiful country, any place Chang Mai, Bangkok, even Pattaya has it all and little more to show.. only depend on what you like to see

seems thailand was or is the BHW location to visit lol i have lived here 12 yrs, lived in nong khai for 5 of them , then samui for 6 months, rayong for 1 yr, and pattaya for 3 yrs. now living the quiet life in korat 2 yrs plus.
pattaya / bkk for sex , traffic bars and no sun as u will be in bed all day after last nights party.
chiang mai, nice sceenary, still has bars and sex ( thailands 2nd biggest $$ industry, the first being tourists whom over 50% come here for the sex / bars parties.)
samui / kho tao / islands, raining now i just got back from there. still sex bars and no sun this month.
east cost , kho change and kho samet, nice smaller islands , but built up over the yrs. yes sex and bars all over too
phuket , expensive , bars and sex all over , and hotels. but nice place.
central, korat, lol retirement areas, quiet , very little amount of bars, most girls have settled bf or husbands, but some thai karaoke places still doing sex, but ull get this all over thailand, even in 7/11 if u ask nicely lol
