Viruses from doing research on Google

Is anyone else having this issue? Its to the point where I am afraid to do any extensive research on google. Its happening to a friend too. We're not doing searches for "Hungarian Midget Porn" but rather legit stuff like finding good examples of optimize press sites and things like that. Inevitably, after maybe looking at anywhere from 10-30 sites, I get hit with a nasty virus.

I usually reset in safe mode and run malware anti bytes which seems to get rid of it but unless I call tech support from best buy where I have a membership, it never gets rid of it completely. The one that attacked my friend's computer was so bad, its hidden all of his programs.

I've talked to Eset numerous times about it and they said they cannot do much to prevent it. My next step is to either look at paying someone to install VM ware and doing on line research that way or just getting a second laptop.

You need to do your own due diligence prior to downloading & installing anything. I research extensively using google and I do not have any viruses. If you are worried/tired of the viruses, get linux.

yeah you need to be careful what, where etc your downloading from. Don't you have a anti virus installed? I recommend Vipre it's one of the best and recommended by many sources..unlike Norton etc it doesn't slow your PC down and is one of the cheaper ones on the market

Avast and Comodo anti virus offer a good free version of their software. I'd look into that.

there are hitting bad now days the only bad thing is now you do not have to download anything to pick up the trojans.... when ever you mouse over they appear and it slow you down about a hour worth of work

yeah that is exactly the issue. I am not downloading anything at all and rarely download anything at all. I just mouse over the links and get hit with trojans all the time. It's insane and my anti virus (Eset) says that there is not much I can do about it.

I heard about a plug in from Firefox that might help? Any ideas? Seriously, i cannot even do basic research on google anymore.

What browser are you using? If it isn't chrome then switch to it.

What about having some security tools installed?

From what I've read, the vast majority of viruses transmitteed over the internet don't come from the shady back-alley type places you traditionally expect them to come from. they come from exactly what you're looking for, regular clean on the outside looking websites. Next to none in the grand scheme of things come from infected software or porn sites anymore. That being said, you should really have some sort of solid Antivirus in place.

I'm using Avast, and it is constantly blocking malicious sites. Occasionally I'll do scrapes locally, and then you can really see it light up.

Do you have a decent firewall? Get Comodo, it's a great and cheap one.

Also, I don't know much about it, but I don't think you can get hit with a trojan simply by visiting average websites, unless you're using no AV and IE6-

My best guess would be that it's probably a malware that's already hidden on your computer. Run a scan using Avast, Kaspersky, Antivir etc. and see if it turns up anything.

probably its the proxy you are using, they are changing the webpages to inject javascript viruses, public proxys do that.

What does the proxy have to do with this? I am not running private proxies. Using the same laptop and Browser (Firefox) as always.

Two - what is this "local scraping"?

Security tools? can you be more specific?

I will look at Avast but is it safe to run a different AV program when I still have ESET installed?

I will also look at Chrome although that means I lose the Firefox SEO tools, right?

Thanks, I am a bit new to all of this and so sometimes I really need to ask for a more basic & detailed explanation.

Also is there not a simple add on in Firefox I can use to scan sites and check which ones are safe and potentially harmful? I thought someone told me about an add on called "Safe Site" but I cannot find it.
