**View Time manipulation **( YT EXPERTS GET IN HERE NOW!!!)

all i was asking about jumping to 90 percent towards end was not about watchtime.
i was referring to retention
watchtime cannot be fooled like that ik it is already measured using stopwatch.

but my question is what about retention. does skipping towards 90 percent to the end count as 90 percent retention?

although i think it won't be counted that way as Google must have already thought about it

see my post above, there is a special counter that check how long you are "spending" with the content, regardless the video player - "play at time" position

What makes you think that every single person who watched the video clicked on the timestamp?
These vloggers have thousands of followers that will watch the whole thing, the clickbait title/thumbnail only attracts new people

I did not conclude that as the only option, it is one of them. The point is if the vlogger is purposely doing the clickbait to get either or

I haven't gone through the whole thread since there is a lot of unnecessary discussion, but I can tell you how it is: If you skip forward to min 18:00 of the video, the 18 minutes before that do not count as view time. Why vloggers use 30 sec. encounters as their thumbnail and title and place it at towards the end of the video is because it boosts their CTR and view duration. CTR because it's a nice clickbaity thumbnail and title, and view duration because people are so enticed by the title and thumbnail that they really want to see what happens. I don't have proof for it, but I can tell you I have watched a lot of videos and this popular strategy has worked on me countless times. In regards to someone commenting the time stamp, that rarely happens in a vlog and if it does then yes, the youtube will rely on people not clicking on it and thus skipping their whole video.

I highly doubt that such shenanigans would work, YouTube code is not written by your average Joe, bear that in mind. There's entire teams of incredibly skilled people that have only one job: no tricks allowed. I am sure if some random content creator thought of it and it hit BHW and everybody knows the trick... then YT team is also on it. Guarantee it.

Thanks for the response..so then if it doesent work like that...WHY do these channel owners try to pull this off?
Honestly, I wish I knew! But if it did work like that, it would be too easy to manipulate their system. Google and Facebook are amongst the best when it comes to anticheat detection.

I get what you mean, but the channel owners ARE STILL doing. So what do you think their goal is for doing so

I don't know bro.. you want me to give you an answer I don't have.

you said it's multiple channels doing it, why not just reach out to a few of them until you get a hold of one, ask them directly?

maybe the main content they have is very short or they want to put multiple ads or increase their watch time.

that the thing., iss these F****CKING A***S never tell you shit. They simply ignore your message or reply backl with bullshit answers like "Hi" or "I just do"

youtube only counts the amount of seconds the video actually played, it does not matter how many times you skip it on different timestamps or anything like that.

@Cyberars explained it very well and accurate.

another thing is why channels does that ??

for example if you are a normal visitor to those videos who just got clickbaited by those titles and thumbs then what will you do ?? i think many will just wait for the content like for atleast 1-2 mins before skipping etc.

so in that case, it increase the chance of getting high average watchtime for ctr views which helps in rankings and youtube itself recommend it more to people if the watch average is high.

so you can say , they hope for the best.

not every visitor have the IM mindset, so they fall into the trap.
