video ranking on top without any link building!!

My competitor's YT video is ranking on 2nd spot without a single link! I have built huge amount of links but still m no where for that keyword! I have got retention views as well.
This is about ranking in google.
P.S. all Onpage done and bought views too. :(

I have more likes, comments than him. Got some retention views too but still!
One thing I would like to say is he has uploaded the same video multiple times to his channel, does this makes any difference?
 
HOW LONG AGO did you start building backlinks?

This is really important.
And yes, if he has multiple videos in his account, targeting similar keywords, it will
make it easier for him to rank. But those types of videos are easy to overtake.

Social shares can help expedite the process.

But how old are your links?
And how old is his video compared to yours?

If your video is new, and theres no other videos in your account, and you just built a ton of backlinks it can
take 6-8 weeks just to rank in google. There are a lot of other things that can play a role too.

But right now I'm curious about WHEN you started building the links? Like when did you notice a lot of them
being indexed? 1 week ago? 2? 3? More?

I uploaded my vid after 2 weeks of his uploading date(mid july)
Soon after that I started building links.
Majestic seo shows 48058 links and 418 ref domains to my video

what kind of social shares are you talking about? fb shares and tweets?
 
That's because you dont have enough views to prove your backlink count. I would say that you keep building more links and in time it will rank higher. Youtube videos react the same way if you build fast links to them with less views..Also forget social shares..They dont do shit...not even likes and comments. Views+backlinks is what ranks a video(Tried and Tested)

Is it just plain views or does the retention matter?

I have already added good amount of retention views mate. still no improvement.

Looks like YT has changed some algo

Though all this has been done, I will emphasize on embeds and social signals more and will keep this thread updated :)

Since we are talking about ranking a YT video on Google my question is that if there are no videos for a particular Exact match Keyword on the first page of google would it be easy to rank for a video with that keyword on the first page since there are no other videos?

The question is very braud - Some Niches Yes its easy to do so, others no. Trial and error is your best route buddy.
In my opinion it will be harder to get that video up on front page if the video ISNT there.

keyword volume and competition also plays a HUGE role in this.


so in short, Test it out.

This depends on how competitive the keyword is. If there is less competition you can rank it easily

Yes they did change the Algorithm some 20 days back. Many have reported that their videos aren't ranking as fast as before just by SEO'ing. I did a test recently where I built tons of backlinks with hardly any views and it wasn't ranking at all..but now after 1 month its ranking no 1 in google and youtube its around 10(Probably because I haven't boosted it yet). My competitor had some half million views with natural likes and commentsso you can gauge the competition but not many backlinks..Now my video with just around 5k views is beating it in google.

So the point here is get slightly more views than your competitor in your niche and backlink it consistently..It wont get ranked instantly but surely it will rank after some time and will stick around for long time.

You may lose in "time" factors, but emphasizing on social signals is a good move. I notice that YT will rank a video higher when it is shared by more people.
