Video Promoting | Optimozing Vid Content before uploading

So a buddy of mine said before i upload my videos to youtube and daily motion that i should go into the video properties on the pc and add titles, keywords and description ect. Wouuld this help in any way for ranking on google or do you see it as a complete waste of time. thanks

I've heard changing the file's title helps but that's it.

Optimizing the video's tags does help in ranking a video.
