If Black Hat World and Black Hat SEO didn't exist, Matt Cutt's would be unemployed. His job is to keep up and prevent the latest strategies and methods created from black hat seo and prevent it from ranking. Because this is an open public forum it makes Matt's job a lot easier. He can stop by any time, read the latest and greatest blackhat SEO methods and create an algorithm to prevent it from working. In addition, I'm sure he's a JR VIP and reads all the good stuff as well. He's probably purchased everything in the market places associated with seo and rankings and reversed engineered it.

Just like he said in the video, when the black hat community complains about algo updates, etc, he knows that his team is effectively dealing with spam.

Typical politician style rhetoric. He ignores those that complain (white hatters) for being hit and simply pays attention to those he was trying to hit (black hat). I'm sure this latest Penguin hit more white hat sites than it did black hat ones.

The blackest hat sites are the ones ranking. I don't see any small time white hat sites (non-giant sites like huffpost or something) ranking for anything lucrative anymore.

He, like most corporate types, sees what he wants to see and not reality. The effectiveness of any update must hinge upon white hat sites not being harmed and black hat sites being the only ones that are. Taking out both in an update is contrary to what he says is the goal (though I think Google's stated goals here are smoke and mirrors and their intentions are much, much more sinister).

Why not address all the posts on many many forums complaining that Google can no longer even supply a user with a semi decent result for regular searches any more?

That is what he should be worried about - not seeking claps and praise because a random spammer or member of BHW who is not even a prolific member is unhappy. I actually cringed with embarrassment for him when he used that for claps.

Lets say he is working as a manager of a grocery store and not "web spam" at Google (which he played a huge part in creating, no doubt). So he is charge of overseeing the grocery store and thinks there is some shoplifting going on. He has the perfect solution and at great expense to the owner of the shop he employs a couple of really nasty heavies to stand at the door all day. Then he turns round and says "Good old me - by putting a big ugly heavy guy holding a stick who glares at everyone at the entrance I am stopping shoplifters!! Yeah cool, but have you noticed you are also stopping regular folk who want to come in and buy stuff and spend money?

Was great to witness the rise of this company (I remember when Altavista and Lycos were the go-to SEs) but I will also totally enjoy watching their inevitable fall...and this idiot can be proud that he was a great contributor to that.

P.S. To Mr Cutts, next time you make one of your enlightening videos, maybe you could address the numerous posts like this one on forums and explain why Google can't give decent results for niether broad or very exact searches.

I see your point, but then how are we supposed to discuss anything? I already feel like everyone has become a lot more insular due to recent updates, and fear of methods getting discovered, but isnt that exactly what they (Google) want?

If nothing is disussed here, then the forum would be no more, and Google would win.

I know Matt Cutts obviously reads this forum from time to time, as do his colleagues I'm sure, but I doubt they base their entire methodology on it - remember its often hard to see things from other peoples point of view - I bet they dont even see things how we see them, and they probably only take whats discussed here with a pinch of salt anyway.

In my opinion, stuff like this would be better discussed in the private areas of the site - but then Im sure your reply would be that the spam team could easily be members there as well.

Dont be so sure, if you are fighting a competitions whats the best thing that you can do ? Find your competition strategy and use it against him. And thats their job to seek out webspam and destroy it, find and develop new ways to stop webspam and unnatural rankings.And whats the best place to start with that if not BHW or similar forums ?...He has the budget to buy all the SEO Services here on BHW x 1000 times and whats stoping him to do that? They get the best Juice out of this Forum since everything is made publicly.. In fact if it wasent for us he wouldnt have a job to go to at all.. So i say he should be very grateful and he even should start a thread on here with some few tips and pointers how to successfully spam and get rankings

Sadly, Every change that Google makes has one purpose only and that is to increase their advertising revenue and make sure that the monopolies rank at the top and any small webmasters need to by Google Ads to compete. Google may be the biggest game in town, but they has sold their souls to the stock holders.
