Video game blog? Yes or no?

Hey guys, I've been wanting to start a serious blog for quite some time now. Instead of starting a blog with a random niche that I'm not passionate about, I've decided to start a blog with a topic that I do enjoy.

The niche I will be doing for my blog is Video Gaming! I am very passionate about gaming, however I seriously don't know where to start and what to talk about on my blog... Should I do articles talking about game companies, game walkthroughs, or let's plays? What would you guys recommend, as I prefer to have text based articles. Anything about gaming would interest me, I just have to find a decent niche within gaming that can attract readers!

If you guys have some suggestions for me, or can lead me to some good gaming blogs, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I believe you should focus on what you feel most comfortable with. Try to make Google happy with content and LSI related keywords and monetize your site with different programs such as AdSense, CPA, email opt-in's, etc...

True words BlackxHat, I've got a site in the video gaming niche at the moment its a bit more work than most niches but rewarding at the same time.

I'm assuming your narrowing in on a very tight gaming niche, yea? Will you have membership features? Videos? I'd start out by building up a strong social presence on as many relevant sites as possible, making your content tight as a fuck, coming up with some sick features for your site to make encourage repeat visitors, etc. Basically, make it a for real authority site.

Thanks very much for the advice guys, this whole IM thing is totally new to me. I am just a 16 year old willing to work hard, however am fairly inexperienced. I was thinking on starting on a wordpress blog site and when I start to see results, I would purchase a domain at that time. Would that be a good idea?

One of the hard parts for me is probably finding the content, but once I find the niche that content is going up on my blog super high quality.

I was thinking the same thing, but I currently am starting up a different blog, that I will actively post on. I will set up the video game one later. It is a good niche, and profitable, you just have to know how to get your blog out there. SEO and trying to rank it on google will be hard and tedious, so you can always just advertise it through social media because all your looking for is people who will look at your blog and want to come back or tell other people about it. I started a PlayStation news blog at WordPress non-self-hosted a couple of days ago.

If I were you I'd start out on WordPress non-self-hosted, gain a following and then switch to self-hosted.

Heck, MyNintendoNews is still on WordPress non-self-hosted and the writer gets 1M hits/month. And at least 100 comments per article. Could you imagine how much money he'd make if he switched to .org and used Adsense, etc.? This is assuming he still maintains traffic and rankings (which he most likely won't).
