Video embedding illegal or legal?

The video sites would not readily offer the embedding code if it were illegal.

Actually more than half of the internet is illegal (darkweb) I just read an article that the darkweb/deepweb makes up 96% of it.
Yes I might be over thinking it, why wouldn't I? You'd be stupid not to.

Yeah, it is not illegal as long you're not hosting the video yourself on your server and display it on your site , you are just using sources. So if someone is illegal it's the source, not you.
 
Funny how the opinions go from it is "completely illegal" to "it is legal" and "don't bother about it" lol.
I' ve read that it would be illegal/risky to link intentionally to copyright infringing content. But if it is "good faith" they will ask you to takedown the links to this content.
I have also found a funny sentence: "If it's illegal to link to illegal content, then you've effectively said that Google is illegal"
 
I say is perfectly legal, you just show a content from another site !

It was a metaphor lol... And what you just mentioned about deep web further proves my point - no one will come after a worthless video that you will embed on your site when there are far worse scenarios that are illegal (and I am not even talking about the deep web) and no one gives a shit about it.
 
If embedding was illegal, there wouldn't be an option to do it. It's simply sharing original content, linking to the original source (unless you are embedding already ripped off content). You are perfectly fine to embed video, as long as you have your own original content present as well.

It wouldn't be any of my own original content that I would have, like thewatchseries, they have links embedded and the user gets redirected to a thirdparty website and they watch the videos/movies there. I don't think that is the case where "if embedding was illegal there wouldn't be an option" some of these third party websites gives no fuck, however I do and that's why I want to be sure that I figure out what I'll be getting myself into, but thanks for the reply though!
 
It is not illegal, take a look at 9gag tv and all those similar sites.

The embedding feature is there for you to share, people, as long as you don't download and re-upload it then you are pretty safe.

it surprises me when so many people here says it is illegal.
 
I see this a not so recent thread but maybe someone will browse and answer this. What about sites like Anime streaming sites. Where they are all embedded from free sites not uploaded by the owner and there is a disclamier at the bottom of the site stating that are from the free websites and owner does not own them and is not responsible for them. However the videos are most certainly copywrite. As in the youtuber that uploaded them straight ripped and uploaded. What liability does site owner have. None?

I would love a real answer to this. Not a speculative one. An answer from someone who truly knows what they are talking about.

Tough question, it will depend on your location mainly, since each countries has its own copyright law.
Let's take the example of ThePirateBay, they are not hosting any content so technically what they are doing is not illegal but they still get in trouble because they are facilitating the distribution of copyrighted material, is it illegal? Well go ask a lawyer in your country and if you are in the US yes it is.

if you only embedding videos, it's no problem..
owner make money from their videos.. and you make money from banner ads in your website..
the problem if owner not allowing embedding but you do..
good way if you not confident, contact owner.
 
If the content is legal, then embedding it is 100% legal, if the content is not legal, embedding becomes a gray are and starts depending on the local legislation. But you can always get offshore hosting and forget about it.
 
Total grey area, but basically not illegal as long as you're not hosting it, claiming ownership, or consenting to anything that would break the law such as "selling rights" to use the material and whatnot. But that's just what I think, actually saw a lawyer regarding this situation a few weeks ago and pretty much said it's fine as long as those guidelines were met
 
Depends on what type of content you are embedding. If its pirated movies, tv shows and stuff that, then it will be illegal because even if you are not the person who uploaded these things in first place, you are still aiding in distribution of copyright content.
 
Very simple: if you have permission from the legal owner/ creator of the content you can embed/ use/ share it, then it's legal Anyone shouting here that it's illegal doesn't know his/ her facts.

Almost all of the big porntube sites allow embedding of "their" content, you may freely use it on your websites. Youtube allows embedding. You can use youtube video's all over your websites. If the owner doesn't allow it he can block the embeddable function. Not all youtube vid's are embeddable.

So to get back to the initial question: embedding is NOT illegal, just make shure you have permission.
 
If the video is your's no issue with it.
But embedding others video for money is illegal.
